Question about the ATST on the CD...

How is everyone doing on that when they practice? Because I am SUCKING. I understand that this doesn't do the refresh at 7 secs like the test but I am having a real hard time doing anything. Can anybody do this one successfully or do I just need some more practice?!?! I had a few crashes a bunch of sep errors and only a few landings in about 5 minutes...

Try www.jeremyjustice.com games section for ATC Senarios I found it to be better practice than the CD

I really wouldn't worry about the test that much...during the scenarios, they give your score after each session, and I thought my scores were pretty average at best. I didn't crash any planes but I was making the planes go all sorts of complicated routes in circles and stuff lol...and with the letter factory, I guessed [educated guess, I suppose] for the majority of questions. Yet I ended up with a 100 when I got my score back. All this and I had no preparation whatsoever for the test, I just showed up and hoped I knew what I needed to...it's really not that bad

Just took it yesterday. The test started at roughly 830am and I was out of there at 130pm. That includes taking the two 15 minute breaks and a 45 minute lunch.

It seems that is the norm with the test. Most people seem to walk out thinking they didn't do so hot and then they get a 100! The letter factory doesn't worry me too much. I do ok on the questions. Is it ok to let letters drop? Because at the end of it, it says how many letters fell, I think. Analogies and math I am doing better on. Scan and scenario I am focusing on right now. T-minus: 6 days.

On the CD is impossible to get all the letters.
On the real test though, it is possible. The never give your more than are supposed to be used. Its just your job to figure out how to make it happen.

Let me ask this. Is there any f-n need to have to wear headphones just to hear the word "roger" repeated millions of times, and then that million times however many people are in the room???? It was horrendous.
Some people started the AT scenarios before me. Their headphones were BLASTING the sounds of Roger, and planes smacking into each other. In a completely silent room! Everybody would look over at the person an laugh at their misfortune. It was a hoot.
When I started, I turned the volume down on the headphones IMMEDIATELY. Don't need anyone hearing my f-ups.

As far as breaks, yes take them. But if you are on a roll, don't stop just because the machine tells you to. I got a 45 minute lunch break. I sat in my car listing to music for about 20 minutes and decided I had had enough breaking. I just wanted to get in and finish it up. Then I skipped the last break in between letter factory and analogies.
I'm NOT discouraging breaks. In fact I support breaks mostly all of the time. They call me the Break kid. But, if you feel like stopping will muck up your pace, then keep going if you can. Take your breaks when YOU feel like your ready for them.

-I think wearing the headphones is a very good thing, but you should turn them down some so they aren't blasting in your ears.
Reasons:
1) It builds confidence and makes you 'feel' like you are a 'controller.'
2) If the plane does not say 'Roger' it didn't follow your directions. This happened to me a few times throughout the ATC Scenario portion of the test. Pay attention to what the planes do after you give them directions because you are ultimately responsible for their movements and/or mistakes.
3) It didn't bother me at all to hear 'Roger' and 'crashes' at other computers around me. You are going to hear many, many more distractions around you when you are at a facility.

-I think the only break you 'need' to take is the longer (45 minute) lunch break. The breaks at the beginning and the end just hold you up. I didn't take a single one until lunch and even then I was only gone long enough to drink a Coca Cola and eat a Snickers. I think taking the breaks would have just messed up my rhythm.

Welcome and congrats on the AT-SAT score :nana2:

Referral list probably won't be out til September(ish...... maybe) and I'm not expecting to be going to OKC before January. It's all speculation at this point and no one knows for sure, but that's just the idea I formed from reading everything else on here...

The green book is in MPH too. KPH != Kilometers. KPH = Knots per hour, nautical miles per hour, or miles per hour. All the same.

No such thing as "Knots Per Hour" :D

1 knot equals one nautical mile per hour. :) Saying knots per hour is redundant, kinda like saying "ATM Machine".

My AT-SAT is on the 14th in PTC. Anyone that's not familiar with the area, just watch the PTC and Tyrone cops!! :D

I know. But the "green book" is using it, and it needed explaining because people were assuming it was kilometers per hour.

Hey, is there anyone on here that is taking the test in Peachtree on the 15th and staying at the Wyndham the night before? Just checking.

Traffic concerns maybe:

If any of yall are going down 74 not from the interstate but from the other direction, be prepared for slow traffic due to construction.

Also on i-85 south of PTC exit they are widening the roads both directions. Last time I rode down there(to my Alma Mater Auburn University) I was parked on i-85 for quite a while.

And PTC traffic can be heavy in the morning but will probably be going the other direction than you.

Good luck everyone! I take mine tomorrow!
