Ameriflight

If you want HWD you will get HWD, but I wouldn't advise going there. Worst base in the system.
CVG owns that trophy I'm afraid. No place has a higher attrition rate than CVG for a reason.

I believe the person that made HWD terrible is or soon will be retired.

He's gone. Which sounds awesome until you find out that BUR is taking over managing the base. Somehow the smell just got worse...

I know you were at OAK and CVG, so I am unqualified in comparison, but I cannot allow you to say CVG was worse. At least it was all turbine, at least the runs were longer. The schedules at HWD suck, then to pile the frosting on the cake, the runs are some of the lowest time in the system. For building turbine time faster, getting different experience like going into Canada, flying longer runs, different weather etc. CVG wins. At AMF you suck it up because freight flying sucks, but OAK/HWD was a kick you twice while you're down situation every single day. Crew apartments were the worst, planes were the worst, schedule was the worst, flight time was the lowest, attrition is the highest, and we are talking about multiple guys breaking contracts to leave. The ACP is on the line full time flying an outstation run, no reserves etc. HWD wins the trophy without a doubt. Oh and mx has gotten even worse so I have heard, imagine THAT lol.

Lets face it, the bowtie rapist made things pretty bad, but the infrastructure of crap was there long before he was there, and it will stay there, it isn't like pay instantly increased, layovers got better, QOL got better etc. CVG is a central hub to AMF, OAK/HWD for the last several years has been the unwanted child in the system, and has been obviously treated as such.

What made it so fun though? I am not trying to talk smack I am legitimately curious.
At the time a Lear captain was a pretty respected position. There were about 30 of us and we were the top. There was a great sense of accomplishment achieving that level and a level of a respect was extended from not only fellow pilots but also the whole company. Yes there were crap days but I legitimately got excited closing that door and strapping on that jet. The flying was fast paced and rewarding. You had your set run and you took ownership of it. You didn't have to answer a 1000 emails, arranging hotels, rental cars, dealing with PAX. Freight was late you went 90% of the time. I met some of my best friends doing that job, some of them are members on here. I went from there to Ameriflight and it was a stark difference. It wasn't the lowest of the low but going between the two it was very apparent from the moment I walked through the door.

Not to get too sappy but if there was still a Starcheck 151 route out of Boston I'd still be a Lear PIC there.

Canada no longer exists for CVG and really didn't add anything to the experience. The flights were longer yes, but you were not assigned a specific run to keep. You had to rotate with a reserve shift every other week that was 6 days a week. All hot reserve. Sunday was 8AM-5PM. Mon-Fri was 8PM-8AM. Only under certain circumstances were we allowed to go home early. Flights were stupid early in the morning and would return late at night. Basically you would get 23 hours one week and then 0 hours the next.

Schedules for the most part were non-negotiable and could change last minute. That meant no plans could be made for your 1 day off a week.

The only way to get any resemblance of a schedule was to take the glow flights. Not to mention the increase in radiation exposure. Since I have left the glow flights have been shortened a ton and are no longer considered a run for a time builder.

The one I did a lot was way too much work for a single pilot. Flying an approach to mins at the 8.5 flight hour mark (good to start, good to finish!) really got me thinking about how stupid the route and I was. This is especially true when I had to go missed and only leveled off initially instead of climbing (yay fatigue!).

The only thing CVG had better was the fact that they had negotiated hotels into the contracts. This is assuming they actually would make the reservations.
