Ameriflight

So is it not possible to get a fair amount of flight hours at Ameriflight? And by fair I am thinking 60-80 a month?

Possible yes. Probable, not so much. Most runs are not super high time runs. Keep in mind AMF is a feeder. They aren't flying boxes across the country. They fly boxes to and from a hub, to small crappy airports. When you get into planes that are flying over 200kts they cover a lot of ground quickly.

Possible yes, but you have to go to undesirable bases for the most part to get that type of flight time. I only got 517 hours last year. Should be much much higher than that.

I just heard an interesting little piece of info from a friend that's in Portland. Two Chieftain Captains are getting put into the Metro, one headed to Miami and the other to DFW. I think it's fair to say that AMF is just a tad desperate for people right now if they are willing to bypass the 99, especially if all the 99 spots up for bid are getting filled as well.

When that happens the people usually have turbine time already but just didn't have much multi time under their belt. They likely flew Caravans for someone at one point or were right seat in turbine aircraft of some sort for a while before coming to AMF. Either that or they already had a boat load of multi-time before coming to AMF.

Ya think!
We have a Martin air van diver who is in training for metro with minimum of a hours needed to get a multi comm

I think I know who that is ;)

Just remember that van driver is going to an undesirable base. You know it is bad when most new metro drivers going east are fresh to the company or direct hire all the time. I know one guy that started in the chieftain and got upgrades for the 99 and 1900 within 6 months because no one wanted the 1900 slot in SDF.

If they want people to stick around they will need to make changes to QOL. Otherwise they will be dropping several thousand dollars every 6 months or less for new pilots in the metro that do not fulfill training contracts. Would be cheaper to just give people a pay raise. Sad that regional 2nd year pays more than I get paid now and first year pay is close to our first year pay. Wasn't like that when I started. Heck. I'm willing to bet some Skywest Bro Fo's make more than our Captains in the Bro. Seriously shows a lack of respect to the pilots.

To be fair, the guy that's taking a metro spot in Miami was in my Indoc class in August and was a FO at Pinnacle and left to come to AMF. He clearly saw the writing on the wall at Pinnacle though. I have a buddy that's a 3rd or 4th year FO there and their new contract involved him taking a 7K hit. I don't know the info on the other guy that's taking one of the Metro slots in the DFW system tho. The DFW base is a bit of a • show right now too with all 3 Bro slots getting cancelled by UPS.

I know of many pilots that have turned down Bro upgrades in other bases where the Bro's may go. Expect a company wide bid shortly if they find work for them.

I put a bid on the Lansing run, and Lotter was in DFW about a week after the bid closed for the meeting where he told everyone that the Bro's were getting cancelled by UPS and he told me that they gave the Lansing slots to the guys that were already flying the run when it was operated by whoever the company was that we got the contract from. I think one of our guys got one of the slots, but the other two slots were new hires from that other company that had the run before us.

Yep, I'm one of the pilots up here in LAN . As for the other two pilots, one came from the previous company and the other one was a new hire.

And JayAre , sorry for stealing one of your 19 hundos. I promise to take care of it and send pictures every week :)
