Ameriflight

UAL747400,thanks a lot for this explanation. It makes sense, and 1.7 is doable.
No problem. Just to be clear, nothing is impossible, but in general there has been conflict in the past with guys wanting the 120 and been passed up for a strange reason. Some of the other planes too for that matter, where I think Ameriflight would have gotten a better person in the seat had normal progression been followed, and a person that would have stayed longer.

I was purposefully blunt in the other post. If you do join us, I want you to have the right and realistic information.

You're supposed to have this stuff memorized!

AMF upgrade system: by seniority until it's not, then its not. :p

I remember that well. By senior... this guy's typed! Direct hire even though there's 152 guys that want that exact spot! Of course this was when they were more than happy to watch employees leave.

...and 99.9% of the time they've been awful pilots with horrific work ethic. AWESOME!

Half truths... Koreans pay to sit right seat at Ameriflight and build time. Ameriflight captains learn both dual & single pilot operations. The select few Americans who are given Mertro FO positoon are PAID by Ameriflight to build SIC time/until reaching 1200hrs total time (Part 135 IFR PIC minimums). Then they transition them to BE99 PIC/CAPT.

Not sure if Ameriflight is still recruiting for Metro FO due to training department staffing, but they the FO's both Korean, and PAID American pilots are trained dual crew, with Metro Captains.

From my knowledge and as a close friend of mine explained, the Metro is certified for single pilot operation in the U.S.... This does not mean it can't be operated as dual crew. The FAA issues exemptions (OpsSpec) operate as dual crew. What I do know is the the SA227 Metroliner is operated dual crew by most airlines operating under the umbrella of ICAO. Many part 121 airlines in the U.S. operated it (Skywest) to name one, obviously dual crew. Other Part 135 ops in the U.S. can operated it dual crew with FAA exemption/ops spec.

The FAA also issues an SIC Type Rating for the Metroline. From what I'm told, to operate the SA227 internationally as an FO even with exemption, you need the SIC Type Rating.

There are a lot of misconceptions regarding this by pilots because they hear 1 or 2 pilots make a coment and take out of context without researching the other half of the equation. The FAA allows Ameriflight to operate dual crew in order to meet lower part 135 weather mins, same as the Emb-120, through exemptions in their Ops spec.

So again, Ameriflight does PAY (NON-Korean) American pilots flying the metroliner as FO's, from my understanding there are very very few, who they do this for to build little remaining hrs need to reach 1200hr TT.

Lots of practices have changed and continue to change in this industry (@ both Part 121/135 ops). Hard for me to keep up as well.

I will be doing what is stated above! Indoc on August 8th! Really excited.

And what he states is completely accurate. I live in Bolivia and there are two airlines that operate the Metro as a dual crew.

Cheers to all!

Funny...the company sent the pilots out a memo about the nosegear issue with the metro, but we have yet to hear a peep about this incident. Everything Ive heard about it has been via rumors...

It was sad to see good guys leave because AMF passed them up for upgrade. I hope that has changed.

Nope, more on the way out. Rumor is a few soon. Glad to hear some ATP rides w/upgrades got done, still i hear some of those r leaving also.

So many LLC's & Regionals hiring. LLC pay bumps also.

Sad. The safety culture hasn't changed either. The 99 with a tail sliced off should have been addressed, and a positive solution offered to all pilots with regard to safety and professionalism. But nope, let's just can the pilot and cover it up!

Hope the pilot wasn't canned w/o NTSB investigation completed or FAA finding....

Oooh wait, sorry, i forgot. No UNION (face palm).

Ok buddy, you did what? There is the exit... use the door with the letters "SHAMEFUL PILOT/PILOT ERROR"

Isnt that the cargo pilot professional attutude/culture/custom/ I hear so much about? Beat em down, spit em out.

So.......What did that vertical stab hit? That was one clean cut!
Nothing until the investigation is complete. Assumptions are exactly why AMF has had the notoriously awful punitive safety culture it has had in the past.

Maybe the theory is correct, but perhaps there's a cultural problem within that base that needs to be addressed. If you fire someone on an assumption before the investigation is complete, it doesn't solve anything.

The guy that landed with the nose gear up in SXM, kept his job btw...
