American Eagle told to play ball or become Comair-II

I think Duff's on a quest to be typed in every aircraft that Southernjet has in the fleet. :)

Pretty much, eh!

The 320's a lot like the 330 and all the Boeings are about the same. 717's just a transition from the 88/90 so I think I'm pretty much "technically" done.

Just curious, but if Eagle does shut down, who takes over all that flying? Isn't XJET having a hard time with the small amount of Eagle flying they took over? Does any regional have any capacity to take it over?

Is the 717 a separate group or do the Maddog folks fly it as well?

Nope, it's still a DC-9 like an 88/90, but it's a separate pilot category at SouthernJets.

A 717 or a 88/90 or even AMR's "STOOPER EIGHTY" are all technically just DC-9s.

They are in the final prep to start re-instrumenting the 88's and 90's into more of a 717-Style cluster so perhaps in the future.

Are they going to automate the systems too? I always figured the 717 wasn't just a fancy PFD, but also automated a bunch of the stuff the engineer...erm...I mean first officer, does in the mad dog.

The 717 cockpit already looks automated. It reminds me of a next gen 737 cockpit.

For a long time I really thought that that was what @PeanuckleCRJ was trying to do too!

I've had enough of a tour of the narrowbody/small widebody fleets. Waiting it out on fifi for my turn to move on to the 330 or 777! (or captain seat, whichever comes sooner.)

The 717 and 88/90 will likely never be a combined category staffing wise. The FMS's and systems management is far too different between the two. The 717 is basically a MD-11 flight guidance, while the new 88/90 is more like what you see on the 757/767.

Are there any 747 layovers in NRT in your future? Just curious?

It's pretty much just a fancy PFD overlay. There is some automation gains (like pressurization control) that comes from having nice shiny screens, but there is also a ton of stuff that is straight from the MD80 (which is pretty much straight from the DC9).

It's actually identical to the MD11 cockpit (minus the extra engine).

Right now, nobody could take all 224 over a short time (less than a year), But over a few years it wouldn't be a problem. The big three plan on parking most of the 50 seat Rjs over the next few years and replacing them 3/4 for 1 and all but a few will be parked in about 5 years. So as 50 seat heavy companies start parking the them they will have extra pilots. They could move the 47 CRJ-700 with in year no problem, and my guess is it would take 2.5 to 3 years to park or move the 177 50 seat Rjs we now have. So call it three years if we are lucky and two if we aren't.

They would probably attempt to spread it across the other two wholly owned regional feeds that are now part of AAG, PSA and Piedmont. Those two would grow, Eagle would shrink, and you would see lots of guys leave here to go there in order to keep flying. Look at how many guys went to GoJets after Comair shut their doors.

Sad but true. Let's hope it doesn't come to that.
