Alaska Flight diverted after pilot admits he isn’t qualified to land

Route 2, or route 1 if you’re already using route 2, works just fine. No glitches. The only issue is when some dimwit sees an execute light if the other route is up and presses the button, not knowing what it is he’s executing, and activates the other route unintentionally.

Either some wives tale or something specific to the NG. Not an issue in the Classic. And not possible in the Jurassic.
I worked at another airline briefly (guessing where this poster works) where 737 users were prohibited by the manuals from using RTE2. Period.

You're correct; sometimes honesty is not always the best policy, but DON'T LIE. Blame "regulatory restrictions" require a divert?
Omission and phrasing are big. If you over share on the PA it can only make things worse. Be general or vague. “We have an indication in the cockpit and are returning to the gate for a technician to look at it” etc

Jesus Christ!

Are you that dense? Do you know what Peru or a vast majority of South America looks like? Do you understand 15,000+ foot mountains on all sides of the runway and what happens when you puke an engine down there?

For once, please, for the love of all that's f-ing holy, shut your big trap for 5 f-ing minutes!
Lima is on the coast and really a non event. Surprised it would raise to the level of needing a special qual honestly. Yes there is mountainous terrain inland but routing is coastal. Flying through central Mexico is more tedious than Lima IMO.

"Ladies and Gentlemen, this is the Captain. The check engine light just came on and we have to go back and have the mechanic check the fetzer valve".
