AirTran FO suspended for being in uniform at a circus

Now I'm all confused. I take it PCL has gone on hiatus due to a need for a blackout - ie laying low with the scum surfing the net. That sucks.

Who's the d-bag that reported him? I think this was an union event, so I really hope it wasn't a fellow pilot. If so I'm joining the goon squad.

I'm betting management staked out the event to see if they could bust anyone. I know our management does that.

Yup....Take hostages during negotiations. Certainly not new. Would almost be comical if it weren't for the poor F/O having to deal with the fallout.

No, it still is comical.

And, it shows another major reason why trade unionist must stick together in our fight for improving pay, work rules, and benefits.

Management thinks they'll punish someone for dropping his kids off in uniform by taking away pay for a couple of days? Well, the union protects their members and provide flight pay loss to this poor guy.

What does the operations manual and employee handbook say about wearing your uniform when not on duty?

there needs to be goons in unions again. break people in half. that gets points across and others to keep their mouths shut!

Precisely the reason I want nothing to do with a Union. You should be careful in what you want-you'll end up with an even slimier union boss and your legs will be the one that gets broke.

Besides, who goes to a circus in their uniform? More to this story...

...wouldn't be caught dead in the uniform outside the airport. If you have to go somewhere, take off the epaulets, wings, etc. and just wear the black pants and the white shirt.

People will think you're an off-duty security guard.

Stopped by a neighbor's house on the way home from work wearing the black pants, shirt, epaulets, no wings/no tie. Her friend asked if I worked for the CDC. Apparently VD inspectors wear a uniform similar to a DL pilot.

I told her, "Yes, I do.", and asked her how she'd been feeling lately...

It was not a circus in the traditional sense (ala Barnum & Bailey) but it was Family Awareness Circus Event. I'm guessing it was some sort of union sponsored activity, which is why the NPA is so fired up about it.

Right, Right. Sounds like the guy wore the uniform on purpose. Kind of like the milfs that go to the gym and stand around. They're there to work out (wink, wink) not to find a new man now that the divorce is final.

Great... now i'm going to worry when I stop at In n' Out at the end of this trip and scarf down my Double-Double and Fries while wearing my duds.

I used to work for AirTran and I can attest that the management goes out of there way to intimidate the pilot group. The FOM says that the uniform can only be worn at work or something to that effect (had turn in my books when I resigned). We all thought that that rule was kinda funny because if you were to literally interpret it then we could not even put our uniforms on at home to drive to work. Believe me, there is an ever-living buttload of precedence on the NPA's side.

On an aside, it is general knowledge over there that if you resign to turn your two-week notice into the Base Administrator. Because, if you hand it in to the Chief Pilot then he will fire you on the spot. That happened a few times while I was there.

What dumb management. Is there not anything else more important at the airline for them to be doing or focusing on, rather than chasing (and suspending) pilots for this kind of drivel?

So airline pilots can't wear their uniforms to official union functions?

At least in your world? Is that your opinion?

There goes informational picketing and LEC/MEC meetings and national conventions. Nevertheless, whatever your personal opinion is, it's quite clear that AirTran Management have this policy in place to minimize the work group's ability to have any amount of visibility outside of the "work place."

I'd think the FO has a possible case for harassment here......don't know the exact legal ins and outs, but this is BS from the looks of it.

There are always hostages taken in order to scare everyone else in submission.

They always get 'em back though.
