Airport passengers to have 'naked' photos taken by full-body

Re: Airport passengers to have 'naked' photos taken by full-

Public opinions, public perceptions, politics, world events...so many factors play in to how these things go down. Nothing is set in stone. Nothing is absolutely irreversible. If it were, what would be the point in us having this conversation? Why don't you just give in to "The Man" now, since our society is obviously going down the wrong historical path?

I think this is the public opinion that wants to reverse the path. I do.

This is for secondary screenings, right? And you have the option to do this or a traditional pat down? To a lot of people this is a lot less invasive than a pat down.

When I went to Denver I looked for signs about this machine - basically there is nothing explaining what it does, or how it works just you can have a pat down instead.

I don't it shows detail to be erotic, now once you have seen a few bodies would you really care however I think it is still a gross violation of privacy.

This is NOT for secondary screenings, it is the new and "improved" version of the metal detector. Yes, there is a small sign that says a pat down is available instead, but nothing to indicate why you might want one. Unless you know what the big mysterious new device does, you will be none the wiser.

Re: Airport passengers to have 'naked' photos taken by full-

holy CRAP so youre saying its OKAY to jail a group of people, as long as later we decide it was wrong and change it?

Of course not. How did you get that out of what I wrote?

Let me re-cap the discussion:

You said "slippery slope" is not a fallacy with civil liberties. Logic says if something is not false, it must be true. By claiming this, you basically said everything with civil liberties is a slippery slope.

I answered by saying, "No it's not."

You essentially said, "Prove it."

So I did. I cited cases where civil liberties were eroded, then restored.

I claimed *nothing* as to the rightness or wrongness of what happened. That's for history to decide. All I'm showing is that the slippery slope fallacy is alive and well in arguments about civil liberties.

Hey jrh, one thing about that poem cited before, here's the full thing:

First they came for the communists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a communist;
Then they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a socialist;
Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a trade unionist;
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—because I was not a Jew;
Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak out for me.

It's not so much a correlation to the Holocaust as much as the gradual destruction of liberty.

This happened rather quickly after 9/11. Wire taps without warrants, arresting and convicting people without a trial, etc, all specifically outlawed by the constitution. My guess is some could show that this machine is a violation of the 4th amendment, but I'm sure there's been some legal interpretation somewhere making it legal.

Yes, I've seen the poem before, and I know what you're saying about the questionable changes after 9/11.

Still, I'm not concerned about *this*. I don't think it's a big deal or that it's going to lead to anything more sinister.

I should also point out, I'm not *for* these screeners, either. It's not like I'm pushing to have more of them, or use them all the time. I just don't care.

Everyone here seems to be shouting, "The sky is falling!" All I'm saying is, "No, it's not."

(pales) Please tell me that the flight crew at least will not have to go throught the scanners. I already hate the thought of people seeing me in a swim suit.

This machine is needed for Air Algerie...to see what he is really into.

Re: Airport passengers to have 'naked' photos taken by full-

anyone watch spinal tap? I'm gonna start putting a foil wrapped cucumber in my pants... and see what they say... "sir please let me examine your cucumber" "SAY WHAT!?"

Re: Airport passengers to have 'naked' photos taken by full-

you know what, im gonna go ahead and say I DONT CARE TO BE THAT "SAFE".

gimme back some of those "freedom" things and quit trading them for those "security" things.

I don't see what the problem is here. You pass through the scanner, and it doesn't take a picture of your face or anything else that can be used to identify you. Yes, I know that the picture shows an outline of the faces of those who passed through it, but can you tell who that person is by that? I can't.

Unless you're a porn star and can be identified by your private parts, nobody will know it's you.

Besides, if they do use this scanner on me, it will reveal that I have the body of a Greek god so it's all good.:)

Re: Airport passengers to have 'naked' photos taken by full-

Ok, since nobody else has said it yet, I will:

I don't care. Want to see me naked? I'm cool with it. I'll even give a big grin and thumbs up to the lucky screener who gets to see my balls in all their black and white x-rayish glory.

If I'm really in the mood for it, I might even loudly announce embarrassing questions, such as, "Do I need to remove my chastity belt for this???"

The possibilities for comedy are endless.

I've been meaning to wear my chain mail shirt to the airport.

No, that's not a banana in my pocket, dear- yes I AM happy to see you, too!
Mmnn, my wife asked if I bring her a pic in a 8 x 10. Oops, used the enlarger pill how about a 11 x 17?

Re: Airport passengers to have 'naked' photos taken by full-

Does anyone realize that before these machines a pat down was only for "additional" screening? They make it sound as though you were always getting patted down before and now you have this other option. They make it sound as though nothing has really changed which is very deceptive. Why don't they show an example of what TSA sees before the checkpoint so that people can make a more informed decision about whether or not they want this or the pat down? I am traveling to denver in the coming months and am very apprehensive about this, for I have never been patted down nor had to have this photo taken of me. I am also traveling with my girlfriend, and I am very uncomfortable with her either getting patted down or having one of these images taken. So what if it doens't show your face or get stored or transmitted (which we don't even know for sure), or that the person who sees it is in a remote location, it's still a very violating thing, and highly unnecessary. I highly doubt these images aren't stored at all, because what if they needed one for evidence? And if you are fine with it good for you but MOST OF US AREN'T!

Re: Airport passengers to have 'naked' photos taken by full-

I suppose I should refresh everyone's memory of what this looks like!

When they came for the Jews, I did not speak, for I was not Jewish...

something along those lines.

You guys mean that I'm the ONLY one here who thought he was referring to the TSA knowing who is circumcised and who isn't??

go through the north security, or either the left or right side of the south security. the machine is at the south side security, in the middle of the lanes.
