yes. I saw many people who would not be able to be a pilot a the professional level. Good people who work hard, but just don't have the required skill set to do it. By the same token, no one is above the other, it takes all of us to make a society.
 
Why is being compared to a bus driver such an insult to people? Why are pilots that much better than bus drivers? We push buttons, turns wheels, and take people from A to B.

Oh I don't know if every pilot is embarrassed to be called a bus driver. I'm not, I'd like their pensions. It's what the relationship implies. If a jerk comes down to MEM from MSP and calls me a hick I would get offended, not because I'm a hick, not because I dislike hicks, they are saying it to be mean and that's where I would take offense.

I often think having the professional group the bus drivers do would be a great bonus to us. Paid crash pads, high (higher than our) starting salary, pensions, etc. ...

The pay and qol is the same though.

I do believe a pilot to be a higher skilled transportation operator than a bus driver, but the responsibility is about equal with an rj/turboprop driver due to the aproximately equal number of lifes.

And at the regional level there is zero glorification going on. Anytime you need a reminder call crew support.

For the same reason an engineer wouldn't want to be compared to a drafter, or a paramedic doesn't want to be called an EMT. That's not to say I didn't respect the drafters I worked with (I did very much), but it's just a different profession that doesn't require as much education and dedication.

Not sure about you, but I've definitely worked harder and sacrificed more to get to where I am than a bus driver. But then again, I was never the type to just memorize Gleim manuals and go through quicky 90 day schools for my ratings. If you don't get that, then maybe you need to look in the mirror and figure out why you hold yourself with such little value.

I don't need outside validation to motivate me to enhance my aviation skillset. I never have. I'm my own worst critic, but I wouldn't change that for anything.

Of course pay is the same for a bad pilot vs. a good pilot at an airline, and some people see that as an excuse to be mediocre. They claim "it doesn't matter". Well, to me it does. Keep in mind that eventually the mediocre pilot and "good" pilot will both want to move on, and it's very likely the mediocre guy will have a much harder time doing so. Trust me, that attitude and history shows up quite clearly during interviews and reference checks.

I never did the memorization thing either, but I did do the 90 day thingy (matter of fact from zero time it was 5 months) but I did not expect to be hand held through the process (as many did) and I knew that I was going to need to do a LOT of extra self study to make up for the years of hangar talk I missed. There are several folks here who are consummate professionals who went through an accelerated program who hold themselves to the HIGHEST level of professionalism.

How can you say that?? It's very pompous. You don't know what a city bus driver might've sacrificed to get where he/she is at. What if driving a bus had comparable regionals aswell, like driving the yellow school bus routes for ~3years before making it to the luxury coaches? I'm sure there are evaluations and tests required, emergency evacuation procedures, unruly passengers, etc.

I don't hold myself with little value, I just have a lot of respect for any professional, regardless of the social status of their job.

You're getting confused. I didn't say I don't respect other professionals such as bus drivers. Like you, I respect anyone that works hard and takes pride in their profession. There's a big difference in what I said, but apparently you missed it.

I'm not saying you don't respect anyone, just questioned why you said you've sacrificed more then a bus driver would've, it was a big generalization, that's all.

I mean what the hell does it really mean? Getting paid right?

I've known people who get paid to do construction, but I would never consider them a professional. There is a difference.
 
It may be subjective, but it is pretty apparent if you know the difference. I have known people who do construction and I would consider professional as well.
