Aircraft crashes into building in NYC

People were asking the stupidest questions. If you were watching CNN, you might have noticed some people suggesting that there be regulations not allowing GA aircraft flying around major cities in the US. It's just WOW....

Now THAT really scares the crap out of me. Seriously!

Here's a conspiracy theory for you... :) (found on another site)

[FONT=verdana, arial, helvetica]Cory Lidle, New York Yankees pitcher.

CNN is reporting "His passport was found on the street below"

WTH? Bull****. This wasnt a flight to Canada, or any other nation. Why would he have his passport? Remember one of the supposed 9/11 hijacker's passports was found unscathed on the street below[somehow miraculously right after the impact] when nothing else at all from either plane in New York was found unscathed.

also,
9/11/01
is
10/11/6
upside down and reverse; or simply spun 180 degrees.

Also, this happened at 524 East 72 street

5+2+4 = 11

7+2 = 9

Thats all I have so far.

If you havent been following the little game, heres but a few of the MANY other interesting things:
7/11 Mumbai train bombings
3/11 Madrid bombings
7/7 London attacks
9/11 US attacks
Flight 11, first attack aircraft
Flight 77 Pentagon
9/11 was 11 years to the day of Bush I's New World Order, "thousand points of light", "Illumination" speech

very strange conspiracy theory...

I couldnt stand hearing the media try to "explain" what vfr meant and its restrictions. Especially when I turned to one channel and one "expert" says how vfr aircraft dont have to talk to atc no matter where they are, then the next channel has somebody talking about the safety of general aviation aircraft. (by then, im like omg). Then somebody showed the New York sectional chart to the camera and said theres no place for a general aviation aircraft to fly around the city without talking to atc. But then on the national news, the person mentioned the Hudson River corridor (way to go ;p)

I should just throw out my tv ;)

and just to add something...Bloomberg said tomorrow he will talk to the faa about adding restrictions to low time pilots flying around large cities. By then, I shut off the tv and took a walk.

Well, they must be a nation-wide group: '"Fighters are airborne over numerous U.S. cities and while every indication is that this is an accident we see this as a prudent measure at this time," said Sgt. Claudette Hutchinson, a spokeswoman for the North American Aerospace Defense Command in Colorado Springs, Colo.'

translation:

while we have a perfectly rational and PROBABLE explanation for this event, we will still do something totally irrational.

To anyone who thinks that light airplanes should be forbidden from major cities because they are a security threat, I say that light cars should be forbidden from major cities, as cars could be used in a terrorist attack. Plus, it would also:

reduce smog and air pollution
reduce the price of gas due to lower demand
cut down on the obesity epidemic since people might actually have to walk or ride a bike
eliminate the threat of traffic accidents

Ok, here's an idea for a new regulation. Maybe the AOPA could push this through:

All famous persons MUST complete instrument training before they can get their PPL. In other words, famous student pilots can't get a PPL without the /IA.

Any thoughts?

That's it! Close 90% of all flight schools in the USA and stop those RICH pilot golfers that have nothing else better to do but fly their expensive Cessnas for fun! :sarcasm:

I'm not quite sure why you guys get all worked up about some TV networks working at selling ad time....

:insane:

Won't somebody *please* think of the children?! OMG, the children! We should ban everything and have microchips implanted! It's time for all these pesky "freedoms" to be gotten rid of!

I'm trying to figure out how this could have happened. Wx was pretty bad for VFR, but CFI was on board. If they had engine problems, surely they would not head for downtown. Hope the NTSB can figure this one out. CNN just showed some video of Lidle flying around in a Cessna, having some fun. Pretty sad.

damn, I was really hoping I'd find some Cirrus plane and pilot bashing in this thread, but nothing!

btw- yes i hate that plane, and all but one of the owner/pilots I've met were annoying newbie idiots. "The parachute sealed the deal"

:insane:

Because the random public thinks it's true and the politicians want to appease the random public for votes... so our freedoms get taken away because if it...

RIP to those that got killed and it's a terrible loss...

But..

All this talk about why planes shouldn't be allowed near NYC is based on ignorance. Especially disturbing is the "Former NTSB Director's" comment below...

Former NTSB director Jim Hall said in a telephone interview he doesn't
understand how a plane could get so close to a New York City building
after Sept. 11.

"We're under a high alert and you would assume that if something like
this happened, people would have known about it before it occurred,
not after," Hall said.

He was the NTSB director and didn't know about the VFR Corridor! Come On!!

He KNOWS planes fly up and down and around NYC all the time. The VFR Corridors are a fun and easy way to get through NYC's Class B and I've done it a few times... You don't need a flight plan and don't talk to ATC, you are on the "River CTAF" and self reporting your position to everyone else. Lidle was probably just doing a sight seeing flight around NYC and had a problem with the plane... it happens. Unfortunately he hit a building when he crashed...

If I hear one more uniformed voice making a big deal out of this I'm going to explode...

(can anyone see that I hate the media :-D )

According to AOPA, USA Today is going to be putting out an editorial tomorrow stating that airspace in major cities should be closed off to VFR traffic. Get your pens and keyboards warmed up, we're going to have some letter writing to do. Kneejerk idiots in the media (and politicians)...
