Air Safety Flight Academy or ATP?

How much multi time did you end the program with? Just wondering if you made it over the standard 135?

[ QUOTE ]
I have my PPL and 150 hrs. which is why they quoted me that I'd have 300-350 when the program is completed!

[/ QUOTE ]

Okay, that makes it WORSE. I was counting on you getting that 150 hours at ATP....

As far as cheaper, I'd say look at the smaller FBOs in PHX and the surrounding area. There's got to be someone with an older IFR 172 you can get your instrument in. There's probably a bunch of students in the area the wouldn't mind splitting time under the hood to get XC hours towards the IR and commercial. I know John and I have hyped them to death, but if you can take some time off from work for a few weeks Skymates is nearly $15K cheaper than ATP.

134.5

Yeah, that seems about standard. I ended with like 132 as I had plans after the program and things just kept getting pushed back toward the end thus not giving me enough time to bug them for the other three hours. They really do get stingy about those last few hours toward the end though.

Kinda funny how you go in to it thinking you get 200 multi and then you hear about how the sim is 50 hours so that means 150 but 10 of those hours are single so that brings it to 140 and then you sign the contract that says they get you to +/- 140 so that means 135 and then you have to fight to even get to that point.

Maybe they will call me back soon and set me up with the rest of the hours they promised though? Or perhaps repay me for those hours I didn't fly?

I also felt like my jetride was a quick three hours, but somehow I guess they manage to get it right on the dot everytime.

I did get done though so they delivered on that promise.

Kells,John wanna give me info on the Skymates program? Care to compare an contrast there program vs. ATP?

-Matthew

Well, for my SE comm, ME com, and all the CFI ratings, they quoted me around $10K (not including examiner fees, but then again ATP doesn't include those either). I think all that plus 100 hours of ME for John was somewhere around $17K.

I'll PM you the details, Matt.

Thanks fer the info I'll check it out! They gotta a number I could call to request info? Do they also have housing and how long is their program?

Okay used the ole cerberal cortex and put two an two together and got eight....errrr four!
And figured out the website to Skymates along with the phone number.
I'll call them tomorrow for info they have two professional courses one for $42k that offers 365 hrs. tt and 200 multi-engine.
Then another for $37k (the same proce as ATP) that gives you 200 hrs tt. and 130 multi-time (ten hours less then ATP).
Right now flight mins. at regionals are like 800-1500 tt. with 100 hours multi.
So 200 hrs. of multi-time though good would prolly be a waste any comments?

-Matthew

They have housing (which I think may be included on their price for one of the pro courses). You might get a price break on that since you already have your PPL and some time. One thing I think ATP might have been snowing you on is that you need your PPL to start their career program anyway, so they made you think you were getting some $$$ knocked off. When I called about that, I was almost done with my instrument and had close to 200 hours. They told me the price wouldn't change, but I would get some XC multi time instead of training for the IR. Wasn't worth it for me.

That's not any cheaper than ATP. I'm not going to knock Skymates at all, I've heard its a great program, too. But, it doesn't appear to give you any more than ATP, or cost any less???

How could it be a waste? Those are published MINIMUMS, I'd imagine most folks applying have more.

Also, keep in mind, right now ATP instructors and direct track prog grads are getting on at ExpressJet at quite a bit less than the 800-1500tt. Just look at the hiring page on their website.

I'm not going to knock ATP's program it is also a great program but Skymates is cheaper we just dont have the newer Seminoles that ATP offers so it all depends on what you want.

Fly older planes save some cash? Fly new planes spend a little extra money.

Believe me Skymates does not pretend to be competition for ATP we know who we are. ATP is a BIG flight school with many locations around the nation. We are just the little guy and we like it that way.
