Fine...but if I was down I'd still feel better knowing some PJs were coming for me. I know enough about those guys to appreciate what they are capable of.

[/ QUOTE ]

You'd feel better knowing 10 PJ's were comming than a company of Marine Corps Infantrymen in H-53's, with Cobras and Harriers supporting??

[ QUOTE ]
Who else has an infantry battalion, cobra gunships and 53's on station, ready to go into harms way?

[/ QUOTE ]
That would a USN LHD-class Amphibious Assault Ship along with a couple of LPD-class Amphibious transports forming a three ship ARG, but you already know this, mtsu.
wink.gif

Oh, and don't forget the 46's, the Hueys, the Harrier squadron, the LCAC's (hovercraft), the SEAL and EOD teams, a Fleet Surgical Team, and 600 bed hospital. Heck, we could start, sustain, and support a small war on our own.

Think worst-case scenario - you're down, seriously injured, in difficult terrain, behind enemy lines someplace. Who do you want to show up at your doorstep:

Some elite Special Operations dudes whose entire specialty revolves around recovering downed airmen and providing advanced medical care, who are equipped and trained in survival, HALO, diving, mountaineering and climbing, advanced rescue and recovery techniques, and are capable of administering Paramedic-level medical care (in many cases, more advanced care than that) to somebody in a wilderness situation, etc, etc.....

....Or some Marine infantrymen.

Oh, and for those of you who don't know, the Marines don't even have their own medics! They have Navy Corpsmen attached to their units to render medical care. Why, you might ask? My theory: in the 229-year history of the Marine Corps, they've never been able to find a Marine smart enough to be a medic.

Heh, OK now, I've done my daily Marine bash and now I gotta say this. It's good fun to bash on each other, and it could go on forever. But like I've said before, I'm glad we've got Marines on our side and EVERYBODY in all the branches does their job extremely well. It's all about military teamwork on a large scale where people rely on each other's specialties and services - everybody's role is necessary nowadays to be sucessful in Iraq and everyplace else that we need to be. This Bud's for you those wear a U.S. Military uniform, and those who have worn one in the past. Happy Veteran's Day!

Marine Infantrymen, without a doubt. He was in harms way. If he was out in a meadow with a broken leg and a sucking chest wound, maybe the Pajama boys could be best.

This guy was in enemy territory, and was being hunted by the enemy. He needed firepower.

By the way, do you really believe that they take some Marine, give hima rifle and say "You're an Infantryman??"

The bashing is fun, isn't it? When you get out and play with civilians, it's amazing how they say dumb •! like "I don't like this anyway. I'm more interested in porn...leave me alone". They have no intestinal fortitude, and no sense of competition.

Oh, well....they'll grow up....

I would rather have some porn blown into my hands by the dusty winds if my a/c was shot down in the Middle East, might as well be entertained as I rescue myself.

My next choice would be some PJ's since the ones on my base have the mental capacity to hold intelligible conversations with on the ride back.

But the Marines can rescue me if I have some porn to read on the way home. I usually get bored with insecure people trying to tell me how cool they are all day long. And since Marines would be the ones flying me out, I'm sure it would take a while to get back to base since we will probably be getting lost. I'll need something to pass the time.

Lets ask Capt. O'Grady who he would have chosen to be there at that time. As he has shown in interviews, he has a deep respect for the Marines who saved his life. He never stated that the PJ's could have done better.
I would like to know where those highly capable, highly mobile PJ's were on that day. Probably at some AF base having their trays picked up for them at the mess.
Why does the Corps not have their own medics? Any field corpsman is treated with the same respect as a Marine. They live and train with the Marines they serve with.
BTW- Happy 229th to all my fellow Marines here.
Semper Fidelis!

Wow, i can't believe I've missed this thread!

It took me a while to read the whole thing.

I think I spit my drink on the monitor several times, from the hysterical exchanges.

I don't think Capt. O'Grady would be dumb enough to publicly state that he would rather have some PJ's rescue him. Only an idiot would publicly say something like that after being rescued. Hell if some Girl Scouts rescued him I am sure he would have nothing but the deepest respect for Troop 569. So I am not exactly sure what you are trying to argue here.

And I have met some PJ's on my base and I would think they would eat the whole damn tray as opposed to leaving it for someone to pick up. Those guys are badass's!

Now and in the future, it might be the Navy comin to save your a$$! Now that the CH-46 has officially been retired from the Navy, and the MH-60S increasing it's inventory, the Navy HC squadrons (Helicopter Combat Support) are transitioning into new roles. The days of Vertical replenishment at sea re numbered. They will continue to give SAR support to the ARG's or ESG's (Expeditionary Strike Group) as it's called now, since the addition of Navy cruisers and destroyers to the mix, ACE (Air Combat Element) during flight evolutions. Now they are gearing towards CSAR and more Spec Ops missions. They will indeed be major player coupled with U.S. Navy SEALs. The CH-46 was just too noisy for Spec Ops. You can hear it quite a distance away, but with the 60's you can go fast and low and they won't hear you till your close.

I'd still take the PJs. Do you really think that they would have come in without plenty of firepower and support? Come on, now!

No. After they give him a rifle, they also train him to tie his shoes all by himself (that's why their basic training takes so much longer)!!

If a handful of PJ's had the warfighting ability and firepower of a Company of Marine Corps Infantrymen, the Marine Corps wouldn't even exist. The PJ's have a very specific mission, but so do Marines. Believe me, it's what we're trained for.
