Aerial Survey (about that time again)

Anyone know of Arizona/SouthWest based Aerial Survey? I know traditionally it is go where the work is type of work. Just curious as I believe I saw a couple of people based here in AZ looking in the past. Thanks@!

I couldn't hear him well either, kinda wish he would put some more effort into the conversation and pick up the phone.

DWAS used to be down there, but they're up in Washington now. As far as pictometry goes, it doesn't matter where you "live" and even though AA is in FL, DWAS in WA, the other 2 in NY, you will all but never be there. So it doesn't really matter.

Roger that, I still remember someone being based here in AZ for a non-az company. Long shot, as being in the traditional aerial survey is not an option for me. 7 months out of a suitcase just not worth it for me. So just thought I would ask about AZ.

Actually the DWAS fleet base was moved to Dallas this year (KRBD). All training and off-season maintenance is done there. The mailing address and payroll is still done in Kennewick, WA but that's about it.

RBD...huh..well alright might have to stop by...not looking for a job at all but used to fly survey, RBD used to be bumpin but the area isn't quite indicitive of GA.

...heard a rumor that RBD was build but the DEA/CIA to aid in drug wars across the border...

For the rest, please go to the Air America website. Under the FAQ's they have a whole write up of the life as an Aerial Imaging pilot. They let you know right up front what the job entails, etc.

Can you post a link to this FAQ page, I can't seem to find it anywhere. I think I've clicked every link from every page. I must be missing something.
 
I heard in another site that some applicants were already in the Pilot pool for AA, how did that happened?...I wonder how Mike based that on...

If he did not send you a rejection email right off the bat,(after the phone interview) I think you would be in the pool too. He didn't say pool when I had the phone interview, but did say I would be hearing from them soon, I presume for the next step in the process. I also understand there is a written test, anyone know the gouge?

I also don't know what happened to the faq's and they write up they had on thier site, will try to find and post again when I do.

The written test is just a bunch of stuff anyone with a cpl should know. I think some of it's pulled of the commercial written.

Eh, 7 months really isn't that bad. It has its moments that are terrible, but all in all, living in hotels is what you make of it.

There was Cooper Aerial Survey. One plane, one pilot. I was on their short list. They had an incident with a dust devil on take off and totaled their plane though and it seems they are not going to continue with the aerial survey aspect of their operations. Real bummer. Haven't heard of anyone else.

It's not that bad if you don't have someone to miss at home. It really is a single man/woman's job. Otherwise, it is great fun.

100% true. While I'm not involved with aerial survey, I'm probably in the only job in the aviation world that spends more time in hotels per year.

Wow, what do you do? I know a few of the guys spent 11 months last year... could do 12 if you want.

When did they start doing this? Do they fly you down etc? I was told to sit tight as they would be in contact with me later. Hope I get the call. I didn't get the "Dear Bum" email of rejection so here's to hope.
 
I am waiting as well, I did not get the rejection email, so hopefully that is a good sign....Good Luck...
 
Ok. Someone asked how to get to the FAQ"s section on the Air America website. What I did was to type Air America imaging pilot and yahoo brought up the FAQ's page. Under those questions you will see a question about Air America being involved in aerial imaging. Just scroll down. Hope this helps everyone looking to get on. All the best to you too 007.
