Aerial Survey (about that time again)

Seriously?

This thread is pretty dead compared to previous years. Any of the current landcare or air america guys know how many they are planning to hire? Have they already started the interview process or still taking applicants?

I'm actually going to toss my hat in this year. I spent the past few months working on my resume and getting a IPC hammered out. The only thing left is to get a my medical bumped to either a class I or II. It also helps that I'm completely single, and I have no issues being out on the road for months on end.

I'm not to sure how many of us have already been replaced but 5 or more AA guys have moved on. There are definitely going to be some open spots. They usually get a good amount of applicants, but if you don't try you won't have a chance. Some of the new guys last year said they had just heard of them and last minute sent and app in and got the job. Obviously not everyone is that lucky, but if you have a good attitude, are a cool guy/girl, and know your stuff you've got a chance.

I know NSA will have quite a few slots open. Of the 11 that started the season, 7 have moved on including myself. It very well could be more, but for sure 7 spots unless he already had people in mind for them. He's posted twice already on climbto350. Good luck.

What it the best way to study for an interview, is it mainly commercial and instrument oral guide? Any key areas to brush up on?

No approaches when I interviewed at LAI. Basically all they wanted to know is if I could follow instructions to the letter and live in a hotel for 7 months.

At AA there is a written test which is from the com and instrument. They may ask a question like if your in Denver and have to relocate to salt lake city how would you get there? They may shoot a few approaches with you because they expect you to use your instrument ticket, check your landings etc. LAI when I interview was like simple, no test, they have you fly the light bar, and make sure you can land, ask questions about why they should hire you and how you plane on staying on the road for 7 months.

I was hired with about 300, maybe 350 hours at LAI. This was back in 2006 though. It was a fun job though. Sometimes it got a little tiring living in hotels but hangin with the other guys in different cities all over the country was a great time.

Hi Everybody!
Thanks for all the great information on these jobs, because of you all I sent my resume to Landcare and they emailed me an application. I am curious as to what the light bar is? VASI was the first thing that popped into my mind but I am thinking that that is not right. I would appreciate any clarification you may have. Thanks!

The light bar is an LCD display that is placed on top of the instrument panel. It gives you a digital CDI needle as well as numerical displays to give you your deviation from the line that you are trying to fly. It will also let you know if you have any errors from the cameras while you're on the line.

I would also apply to AA if I were you. If you live close to Rome NY you're fine, but otherwise you'll have to get yourself there. AA will fly you in via the airlines. A lot easier, and @ AA you get 2 paid 1 week vacations. Just sayin

Good to know, I had a feeling that there was more to it than I thought and thanks for the tip! I will apply with them as well, I am definatly no where near Rome, but I have a car :).

Any news from anyone working at the companies, have any began interviews or are they still weeding out candidates? Anyone been in for an interview?

it's still pretty early...late sept usually is when interviews happen, report around november

If it helps anyone, just went through my old emails from the interview process with NSA last year. I was offered a position on 8/30. It seems NSA is in the phone interview phase if anyone had applied there so decisions should be made within the next couple weeks pending interviews.
