We spent about a week and a half in Rochester before we left. I honestly don't expect to go back there until May.
You think you can make it a month without seeing Batavia? Think again. haha

haha no way man we'll be back at the roost before you know it.

6$ yuengling pitchers every tuesday I'm there. How's that strip club working out...better than ROC?

I refuse to return to Batavia, ever... even if my flying trashcan is on fire I'll hold out, plus, apparently, it takes me "like an hour" to pre-flight in Batavia.

LOL, you guys got flying trashcans too? LOL

haha more or less. I call mine "The Blue Bastard". When we first got out here we longed for a 430, now we envy the guy with 2 working comms. :laff:

Or the guy with a working alternator, transponder, two good mags, and possibly a reliable push to talk... I'm gettin real tired of using the hand mic half the time.

Is your PTT seriously busted again?? I flew that to Batavia for fixin'

We all know nothing is ever fixed if it went to Batavia...

It works about 75% of the time, but sometimes I have to press my finger into it so hard that it's not even worth it... Did you guys fly today? After the usual hour of computer problems we got some work done. But the winds were so strong we coudn't fly any north-south lines, and every paved runway in this state was a direct 20 knot plus crosswind, so our soft fields have gotten pretty good landing on turf all the time.

Why don't you buy a portable PTT for $20 bucks at a FBO on the company CC? Are you guys insured if a mishap happens on a "non-paved" runway?

Yeah 5 plans down as of today, 23 more to go...and the weather dropped back down to OVC004. Week's not looking much better. We'll still be here by christmas. And our hotel bill when we finally check out...definitely 4 figures haha. My new comm 2 is basically useless for anything but air-to-air, and only if we're close. My comm 1 has started doing this thing that sounds like someone is hitting the test button over and over really fast, and it's EXTREMELY irritating. I've tried everything I can think of and nothing seems to fix it except turning it off for a minute and back on, but Cleveland approach doesn't seem to like that very much.

My plane goes in tomorrow for our "50 hour service", so a PTT solution is hopefully in the works. I'm not so sure about insurance on a non paved runway, but the way the winds have kicked up out here at times, it's either the turf or having to fly 50-60 miles to find an airport that has a suitble runway for the wind, and also has gas. Twice I have landed at an airport for fuel, only to find it's no longer availiable. My fuel gauges either read 3/4 or empty, nothing inbetween, so I tend to get nervious on my fuel situation if I've been up for a few hours.

How does RAMS pay? Are you only compensated for flight time?

How much do they pay per hour and how much is the per diem?

How many hours do you expect to have flown during the 7 months?

Thanks,,
J

It's a salary of $1200/month plus $100/day per deim... Not much, but your almost always paired with somebody, so when you split hotel costs you can save quite a bit of money, especially if your in some small town in the middle of nowhere, because in that case there is nothing to spend money on.

They said we should pick up between 600-700 hours during the season, things have been a little slow this month with weather and maintenance problems, but so far I've still added almost 60 hours to my logbook.

IIRC, your guys at RAMS are about due to wrap up your season. Any post-season comments or reflections froms the guys at RAMS or other aerial mapping companies? I'm finishing my commercial in June at which time I'll have approx. 330TT and 40 ME. When should I apply for positions for this fall? Is June too early to apply?
