AA runway incursion at LAX, high-speed abort

That was a 320 at AWA. And they passed in front of them at A5 or A6, certainly not full length.

Vmu is actually a lowish number, all things considered. The nose will unstick. The rest of you won’t fly.

But at 135 knots when say your V1 is 145 and VR is 148? You’ll get airborne.
Vmu is not the minimum speed at which the nose will rise. You are an engineer right?

Also curious for anyone here at DL, UA, and AA on the 737 and 320 family. Does your shop call V1 at exactly V1 as procedure? Or any procedure like V1 minus 5 kts for calling V1 verbally?
At UAL on the 737 the voice calls v1 at v1 but the PM calls it 5 at kts prior.

@Roger Roger Yes to radio altimeters as well as you can keep either automation on or just one, PF discretion.

The trim air switch is also molested every flight for some odd reason.

I thankfully have no comparable story, but an Airbnb i stayed at somewhat recently had a wifi password of “oneringtoruleall” or something to that effect. I’m not a LOTR guy, so i had to subsequently google it :)
I try to drop some sort of movie reference when I’m briefing a new OE pilot, depending on how old they are. It’s amazing how many LCPs approach OE like they’re going to a funeral or a tax audit.

We’re clearly all potentially different.

The aircraft calls out V1 for us on out current fleet and a human calls out “rotate” when appropriate.

I have no opinion on other airlines that do it differently.

Same here.

We have CKPs who treat OE like a funeral or tax audit as well. I’ve been on the receiving end of an OE like that and couldn’t wait for the trip to be over.

I’m of the opinion that OE should be relaxing and enjoyable. Nineteen days of Qualification Training (plus another 2 weeks for Indoc if a new hire) takes a toll on anybody.

Yes it does. And they’re already type-rated so it shouldn’t be a game of “show me the five ways to X” — you’re just bridging gaps and guiding them through operational application of stuff they should already know.

The first time I knew I was old was when I handed the plane over to the FO after lining it up on the runway and said "by the power of Grayskull... you have the power", and they looked at me like I was crazy.

I've been instructed to follow American and told some (very young) FO's that we'll give the American a wide berth.

They look at me like I have early onset Alzheimer's.

DEN approach put us on a downwind for 26 facing east and I went “huh, sure thought the Rocky Mountains would be a little bit rockier than this” and got nothing.

Didn’t it all happen like overnight? :)
