A330 Almost Takes Off From Newark Taxiway
.

Reached 90 knots before a controller told them to stop...

We had this happen at Riddle in my last month of instructing in Daytona. Student pilot on a solo was holding short of the long runway on an intersecting taxiway. Long story short there was some miscommunication and the student took off on the taxiway. It was a bad situation all around and I felt really bad for him as all of the details came out.

Same week, we had a student on a solo cross country either prop strike or drag a wingtip (long time ago and my memory says prop) on a 172 on landing. Adjusted the seat while on final and it didn't click in right.

Feel like a student pilot solo is much more reasonable than a 330 international crew
Taxiway Mike, cleared to land, too. Or Air Canada in SFO. Though those are lineup goofs for landing, not takeoffs, but still.

You wouldn't believe the number of mis-configured/wrong runway/etc. stuff that happens.

what boggles my mind is they had to cross the runway to get to this taxiway. I can see it if you come to the taxiway before the runway, but not crossing the runway first. Thank god 22L is closed sk there was no one on the taxiway waiting to cross 22R,

That system was developed as part of the 350, and is only available on 330s (and 32Xs) produced after the 350 was certified. I think TK's 330s are all older.

As bad as though are, even those I can see more at the end of a ridiculously long day or flight.

Is this the GPS system that audibly tells you. "Crossing taxiway Charlie." "Crossing rwy 28R."

In my day, we had to look at the numbers painted on the runway! And we had to look upslope, both ways…. We didn’t have fancy ”no takeoff“ warnings….

RAAS , yes… so f’ing annoying. You can’t adjust the volume and it always yells “entering runway xxx” right when the controller gives your take off clearance. Can’t hear the controller because of it.

Ours also gives the No take off Taxiway call if you give it more thank like 50% on the power levers. Or maybe it’s just “no take off”. I forget. School was a while ago and I haven’t tried to take off from a taxiway recently.
