9E/9L/XJ Tentative Agreement Reached 12/17/2010

Man, 3 raises for me this year. As someone else said, dolla, dolla, bills yall! Time to buy me some new shades and hair gel.

One can hope right? The JCBA may not have made the deadline but still must be the fastest agreement in history no?

DAL / NWA was something like 21 days, but they were relatively similar and it was a true merger. Here we have 3 very different carriers and it's something not quite a full merger.

The JCBA will not be implemented until probably mid-February or early March...

The three MECs are said to have until mid-January to vote on it.... and we got 30 days last time, so don't expect a quick fix.

I have been hearing a lot about "soft money," and how it is just as important if not more so than the actual hourly rate. Does anyone have some good examples that back that up? I'm assuming that is things like health care and open time compensation?

And to the MECS .... thank you for all the hard work.

Without going into specifics and put in an easy to understand way... "Soft money" is money made outside of the actual block. So being paid more than block for a leg that has a higher leg value than you blocked would be "soft", min day pay for more than your actually flew would be "soft", overrides to pay (premium pay) are considered by many to be "soft"...

OK, guys...what are we talking.....Money, dinero, greenbacks, moolah, bread, scarol, $$, €, cash money!!!!!!!!

Don't come light. Us XJTers/ASAers need to send a fleet of Brink's trucks to Utah to collect!!!

When I was making 32 an hour, i checked one month to see how soft pay (4 hour min day, 1.5 open time) was benefitting me. Keep in mind that was a month with lots of deadheads. It was about 280 bones. I didn't pick up any open time that month. Soft pay is huge, never mind the day rooms during a long sit or a mx breakdown. YMMV

This month (making 37 an hour), a quick check of the schedule, as it stands now I make an extra $330 before taxes on soft money. Some month it really makes difference some months just a little difference. I don't play the system a lot but it's safe to say I'm making an extra 4 grand this year off of soft money. YMMV

Edit: in advance I understand we have a lot of weathly regional pilots on any forum who don't care about an extra grand or two. For us little people, it makes a difference when you're trying to play bills.

Hopefully, a Utah based pilot group can learn a thing or two from the benefits of having a CBA and legally recognized representation.

Maybe its just me, but I think part of the issue is that in the past decade, unions have been handcuffed under the previous administration, causing unions to be very limited in gaining anything, which doesnt help people in believing in a union. In this past year we have had multiple pilot groups reach TAs. The wheels are in motion hopefully for people to realize the positive gains from having representation of some sort.

I don't play the system much either, and I'm guessing about the same--about 100 hrs/$4000 in soft time so far this year. I don't pick up overtime, either--that's all in cancellation, deadhead, and daily guarantee pay.

One of the best things we have is a leg-by-leg cancellation guarantee. If we have 2 round trips crediting 3 hours each and end up diverting on the first and getting the second cancelled, we get paid for the overage, the diversion block, and the 3 hrs for the cancellation.

I agree. You think it has alot to do with the NMB allowing Spirit to stirke? Is there a bonus for approving the TA? What about the lost pay from all the years the contract has been dragged out? Unless that issue has been addressed I still cant get behind the concept of "Tentative" Agreements.

The JCBA didn't go smoothly:sarcasm:. What makes you think the SLI will be smooth? :)

Fixed for you.

The dead line was just a date the company had in mind to try and get the pilots to sign a bad deal. The real negotiating came since then. It's when the bid packet for Jan11 XJ saab came out and there was 50% reserve coverage and they haven't had a displacement award. Their cards were on the table that they needed a deal done. 3 weeks past the 45 day deadline is damn good in my book. How many were way more pesimistic than that. Hopefully people don't fixate on the $/hr and actually look at how much or how little of a living hell your life will be on a day to day basis. A wise man once told me the best thing to get out of a regional airline is yourself.

I'm excited for our new siblings. I'm gonna go rent the Will Ferrel movie Step Brothers again!!!:laff:

You forgot BOB, and Trip Guarantee. :rawk:

I take that block or better for granted. I forget pinnacle has that weird 15 minute thing.

I forget how good I have it sometimes. God I'm glad I didn't stay at Colgan, I'd have burned the place down.

Ps. Nice to have you back on here.

Soft pay can be VERY beneficial....At ASA I have flown 781 hours year-to-date, but have credited 911 hours. It's like getting 7 weks extra pay every year!!!! That includes deadhead, min day, lost block, duty-credits, etc
