737 goes down off Hawaii

Fly By Wire A320 on the Hudson on a beautiful afternoon vs 46 year old 737-200 successfully ditched at night in the ocean. Both impressive feats of airmanship, but this one deserves much, much more press than it is getting. One hell of a job, by the Coast Guard as well with such short notice. I hope they make a full recovery.

Agree, the ocean looked pretty rough in the rescue video.

Just one thing is missing…

Pictures!

Anyone here any details on this?
Metal doesn't mix well with salt water. Does that help?

More seriously, I heard about this this afternoon. WTF? Fuel starvation? Why would two engines quit just after T/O? (That assumes, of course, that any rational crew would fly to a runway if they still had one engine working.)

If it’s bad fuel, it’s really bad fuel.
Riiight?!? (see above)

Dollars will get you donuts that someone is going to be wearing the Brown Helmet about this one, bigly. I of course join with those who are wishing the critically injured crewmember a speedy and complete recovery.
Dollars always get me donuts. Heck, I can mostly still get 'em for fiddy cent.

Who IS this guy?? I watched a couple of his vids, and it seems he has great difficultly reading his own notes. Also, his notes seem only to regurgitate what is already known.

Just sit right back
and you'll hear a tale
a tale of a fateful trip
that started from a tropic port
aboard a flying ship

The mate was a mighty flying man
The skipper brave and sure
Five tons of swag took flight that day
on a 0.3 hour tour
a 0.3 hour tour

The engines started running rough
The cargo pig was tossed
If not for the courage of the fearless crew
The guppy would be lost.
The guppy would be lost.

I love the guy. He put the ATC tapes and flight track together which was helpful. His comments about ATC are spot on. If he "regurgitantes what is already known" Seems like a good move. Do you want him to make stuff up? He's a United 767 Capt I think out of IAH. I really think all his stuff is great. I call them as I see them but I really don't get the criticism unless it's just good fun to diss the guy.

You know what. F off. Welcome to my ignore list. One of the crewmembers is still listed in serious. You're a •.

Ok. If he flys for Untied, he MUST be good.

No offense meant. Truly.

If it matters a whit to you, I'm pulling for the crew.

Not quite sure why you took that as a dig on anyone (any particular person or persons) in particular. If you read the words, it's an homage, not a critique.

I actually think the crew did a remarkable job of ditching at night in what seem to have been rough seas. That's a helluva an accomplishment. Makes Sully look amatuer. I'm not sure WHY they had to do that, but we'll wait and see, yeah?

Perhaps it's too soon for levity in aviation.

Sorry for any umbrage you may have taken.

Seems a bit harsh - didn’t see anything suggesting ill will towards the crew. Plus with reports saying both were recovered in GOOD CONDITION it’s easy to mistakenly downplay the situation.

Plus there’s the whole issue of pilots only getting offended when it’s a U.S. crew. Foreign crew? Fire away!

I learned after the atlas crash in Houston, that if it’s cargo, no one cares.

That controller can be... difficult. Once she got a handle on what was going on it seemed OK. Kudos to the PM for getting in the negative hazmat call.

I literally just had a conversation with a controller about this.

I think once the controller realized that sh__’s has gotten real, they did a much better job.
