737 goes down off Hawaii

One crew member is still in critical condition. Other guy is ok. I'm pretty sure there is only a single JetA source at hnl and it's ops normal out here this morning.

I would think those old stovepipe JT8Ds would run on whatever crap fuel you had, including old cooking grease.

If it’s bad fuel, it’s really bad fuel.

Colleague I knew put about $50 of kerosene into her Altima a few years back but 'didn't notice anything was wrong until she got home' around 15-20 minutes of highway driving later. Yes, the nozzle didn't fit in to her filler point; yes, the $50 for barely a noticeable worth of gas tank was a red flag.

If you're paying absolutely minimum for the content, and even less for the workers you're qualifying to fill 'er up, your gonna end up with some minimum quality around the fuel acceptance and filtering.

Real glad the story's got surviving in it.

Did anyone check with Dan Gryder yet? I’m sure he has it figured out by now.
Yip. Will probably figure out that the crew did not maintain their DMMS and were violating an AQP item since and there was some issue with a defective pilot personality, as well as ATC not doing their jobs well. And yes the NTSB are dirtbags and know nothing about airplanes and flying...

I have seen LOTS of baby sharks in that area... And ditching at night is the stuff of nightmares....
It's not the baby sharks you need to worry about.

Yikes:

Hospital officials said a 58-year-old was in the intensive care unit in critical condition, according to Hawaii News Now. A 50-year-old was also transported to the hospital in serious condition with a head injury and multiple lacerations, the outlet reported. A hospital spokesperson did not immediately respond to a request for comment from USA TODAY.

This is much worse than I thought:

One of the two pilots was found clinging to the tail of the wrecked aircraft while the other was rescued clutching a floating package amid the debris scattered across the waves.

They were very fortunate that USCG Barbers Point was able to get a helo and fixed wing in the air as fast as they did, as well as the two 48 footers. I think Honolulu Fire launched their helo and a boat as well.
