14 more A350s for SouthernJets

I'm more making a commentary about the lack of science that was done to establish 60, and the lack of science done for moving the lack of science mandate to 65. Namely, there was no science either way.

With guys corking it at 66, one wonders if 65 is really a good idea at all.

This simply isn't true. I'm not sure if it can be found anywhere online nowadays, as it was before the age of everything being on YouTube and such, but Captain Woerth gave testimony on numerous occasions before Congressional committees laying out the science of why ALPA supported Age 60. It's a shame that he wasn't re-elected in 2006, because if he had been, Age 60 almost certainly would have remained in place, and a whole lot of pilots would have avoided furloughs, downgrades, and career stagnation.

Earlier in this discussion the topic of radiation was mentioned.

Here are two maps showing the readout of a Geiger meter.

There is no reason to not push for attaining the status of radiation worker in this field.

I enjoy flying low and fast in the A321.

Interesting; I see that detector is supposed to do beta, gamma and X-ray; did he happen to note which was which?

The numbers assume you retire at 65.
If you retire at 55 you live a pretty normal life.

Nope, the data covers the pre-65 retirement years as well. Age-65 hadnt been in effect for very long when this specific statistic was produced. I’ll let you have a look-see as there isn’t really a way to spin it positively or think that it doesn’t apply to us.

The Japanese have studied this as well, and their data states that the last few years of your career kill you. Retire at 65? Die at 66. Retire at 60? Die at 75. Retire at 55? Die at 85.

But of course now I can't find the study, but when I find it I'll send it to you.

That was a Japanese study? I knew I’d heard something to that effect before I just couldn’t remember where.

It depends. Americans tend to eat the worst foods and not excercise enough regularly. What shortens the lifespan are the constant screwups of circadian rhythm. Long haul probably has it worse, but domestics get red eyes.

Domestic red eyes like ANC-ORD/CVG kick my ass way more than the long haul stuff does. Don’t know how you guys do it.

I've been more well rested since I started the new job than I've been in a long time. There are days where the schedule sucks, but overall, it's been an improvement in sleep schedule. Like I said, give me a 7+ hour leg where I get a nap, and I'm happy. When do you get to nap on red eyes?

The quicker you realize that you’re not immune from the effects of “aging in the airline business”, complete with increased radiation, sleep deprivation, oxidative stress and all the other nastiness we’re exposed to, you’ll be much better off.

”But I’m a Vegan!”

”Whatever Skylar, use those non-rev benefits regularly”

My blood pressure is a lot lower than it was.

That said, I’ve got to fly redeye work now so it’s probably a net wash.
