105 Aircraft Damaged at DFW - 400 Flights Canceled

The devastation they are showing on the news looks terrible. Hope people had some warning.

If an airport knows a tornado or hail is likely to happen, do they try and get most of the planes off the ground even w/o pax to protect them? Or is it cheaper to just deal with whatever damage happens to them on the ground?

By the time you've determined the tornado will hit the airport, It would be extremely dangerous to put 100 airplanes near it. Additionally, the airspace would be so saturated that you may get 20% of the airplanes airborne before the tornado.

Got it, thanks. Just wondering ha

There is some incredible footage of truck trailers being thrown through the air.

Back in '87 my dad was driving a rig near Jasper, TX when a tornado cut across the highway and hit him. Picked his cab and trailer 40-feet into the air and threw it into a ditch, but not before ripping his driver's side door clean off. Seat belt held him in. Cab and trailer were destroyed, but he walked away with a six inch gash in his elbow. Have pictures of it back at my parent's house.

Company gave him a plaque for being the first driver in company history to fly an 18-wheeler.

I was just in Dallas yesterday and only because I was asked to be since I wasn't originally planning to be there until today. Wow, the video is just incredible.

Well that will be convenient fleet write down and one time charge for the BK plan.

Scary wx stuff.

Unbelievable the amount of scary weather we have had in the past couple of years.
