Academy Basics/Terminal Class - 9/8/08

So, I should have been arriving in OKC an hour ago, but instead, United Airlines did their best to make sure I got stuck in DC.

So....Any suggestions to make sure I don't have to buy another ticket back home in the morning and put in an application at Denny's???

Are you going to get out tonight at all?

Hope you get plenty of sleep on the flight in and take a cab to the training facility (how pissed off would that cabby be? "Yeah, that'll be 85 cents")

Earliest I get into okc will be 11:15

Wow... you cut it wayyyy too close. Where did you start from?

Since it's just administrative stuff the first day, they may cut you some slack... dunno though... I guess you'll be burning up their lines in the morning.

Hopefully someone at or has been at Academy can provide some insight on if people were late day one.

I didn't really have a choice but to cut it close. I got my FOL on Wednesday afternoon!

Hopefully, it won't be such a big deal. I've already left a voicemail and email to Charlene Sade. Considering how well everything has gone so far, it just figures that a malfunctioning door flap on an old ass puddle jumper would be what ruins this. Gotta love. For the record though, it wasn't ATC that screwed up my flight.

I shouldn't say brutal but pretty boring. Just a bunch of slide shows and videos about sexual harassment, equal opportunity, etc.

Point taken. Haha

My First day was great! I woke up at 4 o'clock in a room at the holiday inn dulles. I sat around, smoked a cigarette and woke myself up to get on the 5 o'clock shuttle to the airport.

I missed the 5 o'clock shuttle, so went at 5:30.

United put me on an american airlines flight for 7:35, so I knew I would have weird questions to answer. I did.

I checked in and got through security....guess who got the random bag check and feel up(pat down)? ME!

I treated myself to french toast at max and ermas and waited for my plane. 3 hour trip in the middle seat to Dallas/Ft worth, and then a run through the airport to take an hour long trip to OKC.

Meanwhile, Charlene Sade contacted me, and instructed me to just get to the FAA security check in building. Apparently this doesn't happen very often. :rawk:

Since my luggage was still in DC, I had to redo the paperwork. I did all that, Got sworn in, very quickly, and then was escorted back to the security building to get my ID. I have to hand it to Charlene. She could not have been more helpful. (Ironically, I heard her take a call, and give the person the "I have your clearances, but we currently are not placing people in classes" speech. Been there!

After that, I went to the classroom, where everyone else was, and listened to the harassment and behave yourself policy speeches. We were then dismissed. I'm sure I missed a bunch of stuff. If it's important stuff, filling me in would be great if anyone could do that.

Otherwise, I will breath a sigh of relief, get something to eat, get a shower(finally), and go to bed. See ya at 7!

*Mid message update! The luggage is on the way! Do not under any circumstances fly United. Air Tran and Southwest are better AND cheaper.

Basically in the morning the key theme was "don't be late!" Even after breaks if you are late/tardy 3 times total you are fired. No joke, don't be late EVER. The instructors were all very cool but they got their points across.

See ya tomorrow bright and early!

one guy in my class was late and the course manager made him fill out some paperwork that basically said 'ive been warned. if it happens again i could get fired', and to add to it, he had to fill out a request for leave for the hour he wasnt there.

we had a guy in our class that has been late 2 days. One day about 2-3 hours and the next day (yes the next day) was about 15 minutes late. One more late in his 1 year probationary period and he's done.

I can't see how one could wait this long, and put this much effort into the process to blow it on something as silly as showing up late to class. If i had an alarm clock for every month i've been in this process, id have.... well....16 alarm clocks. I don't think ill be strolling in late

It doesn't help that they think it's a good idea to go out every night. I mean every night.
