Guns in the Cockpit

Heh. I got a crash axe, and I didn't have to take any of my own time off and non-rev somewhere to learn how to use it. :)

It does make for interesting dynamics when the FO is the FFDO and the CA is not. Observed a crew like this while on the jump seat - the FO seemed more in charge than the CA.

It shouldn't make any difference as far as who is in charge. The only difference is that the FO has a gun. He doesn't get any more decision making capability. The only time that it would make difference is after someone is shot dead on the floor...

I'm not saying that you didn't observe something out of the ordinary, but the captain should have asserted his authority if the FO was behaving inappropriately.

It asbolutely is the CA's plane at all times. Anyone who thinks going through the program changes that is wrong. Two reasonable, mature professionals should not have a problem figuring out that working relationship. Leave your John Wayne complex at home.

In my believe something like 9/11 with knive's and weapons could not or would be extremely difficult to get bring a weopon on board.

That's very naive. The fact is, 9/11 could happen again tomorrow. Nothing that the TSA has done would do anything to stop it. Don't be lulled into a sense of complacency.

I guess you are right!

Eh, don't just roll over and say "ok you're right". While I don't entirely disagree with him, he didn't even state any reasoning behind what he said, but that was enough to change your opinion.

As for my opinion, if somebody wants to carry up there, go right ahead. I believe that passengers aren't going to let anything like 9/11 happen again. We've now learned that if you're hijacked, you're not going to end up safe and sound in a tropical destination. So between the pilots not opening the door, and the passengers not letting somebody tinker with the door, I don't think there's much use for a gun in the cockpit. Probably more likely to hurt someone via mishandling the gun, than actually killing a terrorist.

:yeahthat: Thanks for the back up!, I am not really feeling talkative today, soo maybe that is why I am not really fueling the fire:)

I'm not going to explicitly list a bunch of security loopholes on a public forum. Suffice it to say that nothing that took place on 9/11 has been prevented from happening again.

Please read what I wrote. I didn't say "that guy is wrong WTF are you thinking?". I just pointed out that all it took was you saying "eh, not really" and suddenly he's done a 180. Simma donna
