FAA Announcement AAC-AMH-08-PUBNAT1-08232

Re: FederalTimes article about PEPCs

That is interesting, thanks for posting it. As much as I want to get into this job, I find myself actually hoping it doesn't move too fast. I don't finish my associate’s degree until the end of May! I was hoping this would all go down after that!

I totally understand that feeling...I am 8 months pregnant (33 wks) and I can't go anywhere for at least 6 weeks after the baby is born. So that pushes me back to at earliest mid june. I guess I'll just have to let them know if it is all happening too fast. AT-SAT is in one week. I'm still in school too, but I'll be done at the end of April so hopefully this process won't be too efficient. I was kinda counting on it taking a few months. Oh well, can't make everyone happy.

I am a newbie, but wanted to say that I am headed to Illinois on April 11th as well. I am finishing up by Degree in April in Aviation Administration in April as well. One of my professor is a supervisor at the local airport, so he has given some insight to the job, but not too much as to the exam. I too am kind of nervous. Any thoughts on how to calm the nerves? I think it is a lack of knowledge and what happens after the test.

Just read all the different threads here about the test. If you are testing at Wyndham in Lisle, don't be nervous. The atmosphere isn't as intimidating as I thought it would be. The two people giving the test are really nice. It doesn't start until 10 after 8. You will do fine.

Hi all,

I took the AT-SAT for the February public announcement last Thursday here in OKC and was notified today that my score was a 100. Next step - referral list!

Deo gratias!

So all applicants should bow out of the process and call it quits?

Yes.

Yes, because if we finally get through to some of you guys and the supply of willing robots the FAA wants declines, they'll have to get back to the table and actually NEGOTIATE a professional contract.

i am taking the AT-SAT test on April 1st in Holtville, NY. is anyone else taking the test the same day?

What is the process after the test? I understand that you have to wait for an interview and then you go to the academy? I have also read a lot about the pay being really bad during training. What is the per diem that is added during training.

That's a completely unreasonable expectation and a horrible way to approach the situation. Thankfully, controllers haven't been throwing planes at each other too.

In my opinion, this situation is one of those that requires a strength in numbers. A union with 15000 people is better than a union with 10000 people. The attitude of "starve management of new employees" or having NATCA bad mouth the FAA in every press release does no good. It's actually pretty immature. The fact that there are only 2 congressmen actively supporting each bill is a shame. Every NATCA member should be sending their congressman a letter each week if you want something done, otherwise the bill will just be "rescheduled" indefinately. To think that the ego's involved would just forfeit the battle and admit they're wrong is foolish. I don't know if you guys have noticed in the past few years, but public officials aren't afraid of "shame" anymore. They have nothing motivating them to do a good job but votes. Instead of threatening them with lost votes, we should be petitioning them with votes to win by helping come to a reasonable solution.

It happened with Immigration reform. Congress acknowledged that the public didn't want amnesty or open borders, so the bill/movement was crushed.

The public is sick of sitting on tarmacs or being late because of delays. This should be lobbied and requested continuously. The approach that NATCA has used in the public forum is in my opinion the wrong way to go. It seems childish and would only breed resentment by officials and their egos.

I could be wrong though. :rawk:

my friend just left for OKC on sunday march 16th....she is getting paid $10.50 per hour, and getting $79 per diem. she is going to be working at ZNY (an ARTCC) on long island, and she will be starting at about $43k per year. she will earn a 15% increase per year, with a large bonus (around 20k or so) when she completes training. so i do think the pay scales are acurate because with a 15% increase per year, then with a large increase at the end of her training (usually between 3-5 years) she should be making close to 90K. hope this helps

Taking the test tomorrow morning in Lisle, IL. Only a 10 minute drive. Have had the prep book for about 2 weeks now and I think I am ready to go. Hardest thing for me is the ATST Scenarios, keep crashing the planes...

ive had my book for about 2 weeks as well...the hardest part is the ATST Scenarios. i crash them too. they turn to slow...i dont think the one of the actual test is like that. i believe its slower, and they change direction instantly. let us know how the test goes when its over. Good Luck

The scenarios portion I found easier on the actual test.

bippoptl- There is an update to download, I think it was posted under the "AT-SAT Study Guides" thread. Download that. It fixes a lot of bugs, and it allows the planes to move instantly.

Yeah I've had the book for about a month now and the software (after it's updated) provides good prep
