FAA Announcement AAC-AMH-08-PUBNAT1-08232

Beehive: Do you know who makes up the hiring panel for each state? Is there one rep from each facility on the hiring panel for that state?
I'm not sure how the referral list are made. I read of some applicants getting referrals and offers from states I applied for but when I checked my applications for those states it read that a referral list has not yet been created. I still managed to make it on to several referral list that are closer to me than others I got passed on. So location may...play a factor.

Great news! I just got an email this evening from the contractor who administers the AT-SAT stating they are offering the test in my city sometime between March 13th and April 2nd. I have to reply by March 7th (of course I did immediately!) to reserve my place for the test. This is for the recent public hiring announcement that ended on Feb 15th. The text of the email is follows:

Congratulations, you have been selected to take the Air Traffic Selection and Training (AT-SAT) test in the subject city. The test will be administered for the FAA by Robinson Aviation (RVA), Inc. We plan to administer this one day test between 3/13/2008 to 4/2/2008. In order to ensure a slot in the test, contact the AT-SAT Program Manager Bob Oborsky, (123) 456-7890 or reply to this email with you current address and phone number not later than 3/7/2008. Alternate location may be available by calling (123) 456-7890). This email will be followed by a letter, once you confirm your slot, you do not need to confirm it a second time. The letter simply insures that we do contact you.

Looks like this hiring wave is going to be moving MUCH faster than last summer's, considering many folks from last summer just took their test a month ago.

Hmmmm Haven't gotten this email yet, maybe it's done by area since Im down in Florida

So all applicants should bow out of the process and call it quits?

yes thats what iam saying, if you people keep signing up for the substandard pay and working conditions, the FAA will just come out and say, HAY look at all the people applying for the job it must be good, and nothing will change.you will have nothing to complain about because you signed up for this.hay but dont belive me you will see quick enough.

I hear lots of people say this, I see a flaw. A lot of people want to do this job. If everyone just denied the job and it got better (more than people walking away needs to happen by the way), guess what? It's better, but they won't be a part of it. How does that help them?

We can all agree that this will never happen. Too many people want the job. Find a new solution.

I tend to agree with whysoserial. The same could be said of pilots accepting sub-standard wages to get their foot in the door.

This is not the applicant's fault, but rather the employer's. A pilot has a fairly wide choice of airlines to work for in the regional industry. An air traffic controller does not. If you want to become an air traffic controller, it's either the FAA or the military. For a civilian, there is only one avenue.

I believe most ATC applicants (and pilots) would like to be part of a solution, rather than seat back and wait, and lose seniority in the process.

When I applied for this postion I understood the possibility of there being a strike in the near future which would only put me back where I came from, a normal job.
I will continue to look at this as a great opportunity for myself, you think for yourself'er!;)

Was anyone not authorized to take the AT-SAT or know of anyone who was denied? It just seems like anyone who submitted an application is now authorized to take the test.

I was authorized to take the test 6/15/2007 for a Minnesota OTS announcement. I never heard a thing but in January when the FAA APAS website went under some changes it now only says something along the lines of a a referrel list has not been created for this announcement. It no longer says any thing about AT-SAT authorization. I reapplied and have received a notice that is something about at this time you have not been authorized to take the AT-SAT please continue to check back. After receiving this I emailed Bob from the company that does the tests and have not heard anything back. The MN announcement is still up but no longer has a listing of anyone to contact with questions. So basically what I am getting at is no not everyone who applied was authorized to take the test at that time! Hopefully I can find something out in the near future though.

A little more information for everyone. I just spoke with Aviation Careers and the person there informed me that this announcement is indeed for 2008, not for 2009 as some have suggested. There is no specific timeline once you take your AT-SAT according to the lady I spoke with. She said to just continue checking ASAP.

I should have asked her when we would get to make our geographic selections. Maybe someone else can find that out.

Cheers.

Just got the email to schedule the AT-SAT. I called and will be taking it in a couple weeks down in Atlanta. Anyone else joining me there?

I just got the e-mail for testing in Chicago today. They said I was the 2nd person to even register. I am taking it on 3/18. I've been tempted to call and change the date to the Monday after Easter, since I have not received my study guide from Amazon.com yet. I am guessing I should just take it and get it over with. The book should arrive this week. I can't wait!

Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but it doesn't matter how good you score on test. Books can't separate planes. Either you can do the job or not. If you are scared of telling other people they are wrong or have any self confidence issues then you will never succeed in the this job. I know MANY people who were way smarter than me that failed at this job yet I succeeded. I hope everyone on this forum that REALLY wants this job succeeds. Unfortunately it won't happen. Study hard, know that you really want this job despite the BS going on and stick with it.

Good luck to all of you. I wish you nothing but the best

I still haven't received the email, I wish I would already. I'm curious who hasn't gotten the email yet?

We still haven't received the email. My husband and I were both approved to take the AT-SAT, I just hope we go through the whole process together, I read that if they have too many applicants for the number of positions open, it becomes a lottery as to who gets to take the test. Although, from what I gather, there are a lot more spots than applicants. Good for us.

By the way, we are also in Florida, we hope to get the Miami test site since that is a lot closer for us than Daytona. I am going to order the test prep book tonight and hope it gets here before I get the email, although I really want that email. :) I'll be sure to post as soon as we get it...hopefully within the next week or two!

I wonder when we'll get to provide our geographic preferences. I know some people did it already when they submitted their application, but what about the people who actually followed the announcement's instructions?

Dude, I don't know why you masked Bob Oborsky's number. Other people may want to contact him to ask questions about AT-SAT scheduling.

Here we go, guys:

Whooo Hooo! Husband and I got our AT-SAT testing notice...in Miami (Dania Beach) have to notify by 3/10. Hopefully our book gets here before our test date. :)

Good luck everyone, as much as a lot of people talk bad about the FAA, they seem to be on their game right now!
