I was talking with an American Eagle Captain today and he said they are hiring people with as little as 300hr TT. I would like to know if anyone has been hired on this site with that LITTLE time, or if they know someone who has. The captain I spoke with said they are HIRING 300TT!

My class at PDT had a guy with 215TT and 25 ME... Yikes! Then again PDT only flies Dash 8's... :D

My old instructor is currently in class at AE. He said there is one pilot who got hired with 290tt and only about 50 ME. However, he has gone through an internship with AA.

Lowest timer I met when I interviewed at AE this month was in the high 400's. I heard the same 300TT rumour from a AE FO before I went to the interview. But, there didn't appear to be any 300hr people interviewing that were hired when I was there.

Eagle will take you with a Comm Multi and send you to a 10 week Flight Safety program. Then you are in. 336/65 or something like that is total time required when complete.

I can understand wanting to get into a regional for a seniority number, especially with one of the better carriers. Unless I am missing something, wouldn't getting on with such low time equate to a long sit before upgrade due to ATP mins? Or does it not really matter at a place such as AE due to the length of upgrade right now?

Yes, that is true. They will help "low" timers build up to 400/50, depending on your background and how well the interview goes. In my interview, there were guys who just broke the 300tt mark.

I'm guessing there isn't any ATP questions in the interview like the old days.

I know some guys from my school (ATP) getting hired in their 3-400's, but of course like 200 of that is multi.

I talked with that Captain again today and he said 300TT and atleast 50 multi will get you a pretty decent look by the recruiters because of the shortage of pilots. He said if you have 500TT w/100 multi and a 4 year degree you are almost guaranteed a job flying the ERJ. He said the low time guys with 300TT end up flying the ATR or SAAB. So his advise to me was stick it out and get that extra 200TT and 50 multi cause it means the diff.... between flying a...... JET.. or a ATR....Upgrade are around 2 years he also mentioned.

So you're advice is to wait, lose a couple hundred seniority numbers so you won't have to fly a Saab or an ATR?

Are you serious?

It only takes a few seniority numbers to make your life a living hell. Ask the XJT guys on the other thread how that SLC or LAX commute to EWR is going.

Get hired as fast as you can! Every seniority number counts!

Upgrade are around 2 years he also mentioned.
Upgrade to what? The upgrade to captain time right now is around EIGHT years.

From APC:
Most Junior TP Capt Hired - Oct2000
Most Junior Jet Capt Hired - May2000

You actually get a slightly faster upgrade going jet...as the numbers stand right now.

AE went through a 3 year period without hiring after 9/11. Therefore, when the last person hired before the stangnation upgrases, time to upgrade will automatically decrease by 3 years. Still, 5 years is a good stint in the right seat compared to most other egionals right now.

Did your Captain friend happen to mention that AMR, AE AND AA's owner, has announced that AE is for sale?
