You get really bored when you are alone in a little town in ID and the wx sucks for an entire week (maybe 2?) in a role and you can't even shoot the rev! That's me now:banghead:

You will also get bored if you are flying 16-20 miles lines. I really enjoy when the lines are 4-6 miles because I'm doing one steep turn after another. And personally I love the view even if I'm flying 8-10 hours in the same 50nm radius.

During the winter the available window time is only 4 hours (10-14) so you won't be flying much more than that anyway!
 
My biggest question is what about liability and insurance on the aircraft and us. I assume since we are employees of RAMS that we are covered.
 
Save those receipts, boys! Remember that any business-related expense that you front out of pocket is tax-deductible. Just has to meet or exceed 2% of your adjusted gross income. This includes the hotels you pay for during training.

Yeah, that's what I was curious about, not so much medical insurance.
 
I did a little research about liability insurance, and in order for us to be covered and not just them, we need to be named as an "insured party/person" and not simply "insured pilot" on their policy. "Insured pilot" protects them from liability but doesn't even stop their own insurance company from coming after us to make up expenses.

I checked with an AOPA insurance guy and he says there really is no third-party option (like renters insurance) that we could get on our own, it has to be added to their policy.

He said it is uncommon for them not to, but to be aware of the difference.

I've been doing this for about 2 1/2 months and I'm now on the 2nd plane. The first one was due for the annual so they had me fly to our base and swap out the equipment from one plane to the other.

Lets hope RAMS has it right on their policy.

Hahah I like you attitude, but let's keep in mind that we've been given a very rare opportunity with our ~250 hours. I'm all for having fun and everything, but we should probably save getting hammered until after we're done :buck:

Alright I'll make it six "adult beverages" when we pass training.

I had no idea about the insurance thing, but thanks for the head's up. I'll consider it for the meantime but right now I have insurance.

And I may be a month overdue but congrats to "shh, not while i'm flying". I hear ya on being bored, I'm going crazy sitting here on the ground.
 
So how many pilots/planes total does RAMS operate for Pictometry? I thankfully got hired with DWAS courtesy of Alchemist, and was curious how many other companies have a large fleet for aerial mapping.

Yeah but just make the most of it. Spend extra time hanging out with people you won't see for a while. It'll be here before you know it.

The last couple weeks before my first flying job kind of feel like the last couple weeks before I turned 21...c'mon already!! :cwm27:
 
I booked my flight to arrive on the morning of the 28th. Thought about the 25 1/2 hour train ride...

When is everyone else getting there?
 
Early afternoon of the 28th. Still waiting to hear about where I'm going when I leave the airport though :confused:
