Anyone go through the JAX CFI have any tips and or advice? I hear its Walt but dont know much about him nor his pass rates on students he signs off etc? I look foward to this and cant wait to get the two weeks over and start to instruct at ATP.....

:rawk:Walt doesn't sign you off. It's hard. Study your FAR's HARD. Know your systems like the back of your hand... did I mention study?

Do people really come in not studied up, not having writtens done not having the pre course done?

I've gone through the ASA, done the pre study, read a lot on aerodynamics, systems..... Sign offs...... a know i'll be reading a lot more between now and my checkride....... Any other suggestions other then relax?

Have fun in JAX. Just stay away from Kings Street downtown. I don't know if you have ever been to JAX or lived there but be careful, it is the largest city in the United States. Don't get lost.

PM me if you guys are looking for anything fun to do in the area.

Amazingly - yeah they do. Sounds like you'll be good to go. Oh, and do be careful in Jax - there's a really good side of jax, and a reallly bad side of jax(the whole highest murder per capita part)

I made a few changes for you. Don't be freeked out though. Like Turbomax said, there is a good side and a bad side. That's anywhere you go though. Just stay east of the river and you are good.

Didnt realize that Jax really had a bad side of town. I kind of figured it was just another FL city and all..... Then to hear its the biggest and figure out why that's rather interesting...... I'll def be careful. Really only plan on being in my hotel and at the airport.... Is the airport in a good part of town? I'll be staying on Salisbury or near there..... Hotel appears to be nice..... Hopefully that's in an ok part of town..

The airport and your hotel will both be in a fine part of town. Don't worry about that. The only places that it really gets tough is when you get into the downtown area. Go check out the beach. Always a wonderful sight to see, especially the hotties. I will be up there for a week in August so if you are still there we can meet up.

Awesome..... I will be there utnil the end of July for sure. As long as things go arlight I hope to start working right away as a CFI if there is a class. That is if all goes well. :) But I'm def up to meet some JCers.... Not much time to visit the beach and see the "hotties" though...

Well today I'm doing the drive down to JAX. Leaving around 10pm or so from Indiana. I'm very excited and nervous about the events to unfold. I have student quite a bit yet for this kind of course it sounds like you really can never be too prepared and that drives me crazy. I look foward to what lies ahead and learning all I can in the week of ground school and solidifying what I already know.

I've been studying for well over a month and we shall see what unfold. Marcus (Forever777) and another of my buddies just recently did the CFI courses (Marcus in Vegas, my other buddy in Daytona). They have been very helpful in preparing and I'll keep you all posted as much as I can about the progress through this.

Good luck. I just finished last week. Still waiting for checkrides, though. Where are you going to instruct?

Where were youf or CFI school and what's up with the Checkrides? I cant afford to be delayed in Jax over the 14 days so hopefully things will work out here. I am just starting and if things go alright and ATP says they would like me to stick around I'll ask for Daytona Beach, Stuart, ATL, RDU or even Jax.... I thought i'd like Houston but that's just entirely too far away from home for me....... I'd love BWG or ARR but truth is they arent getting hours up at those locations. So i rather be away from home and get hours instead of being close and not getting hours....

Where are you hoping to go and have you got those rides scheduled yet?

Day One:

Report at 8am.... Good ole 8am-8pm day of ground school..... Lunch break/Dinner in there of one hour each. Rather good day of ground with general information. A lot on aerodynamics and things of that nature. In addition to different items relating to figuring out if a plane is airworthy etc. Again long day but rather good. Now its time for the "homework" and preparing lesson plans. Have to present three lessons tomorrow and told to be ready for a 7am-9pm! haha nothing like a good ole 14 hour day! Honestly so far the class looks to be a strong one....... We will see what happens!

I am in Jax, thats where I did CFI school and I am going to be instructing. This is home for now, my wife came with me so I am going to be staying here. I finally heard today I am going to have my MEI checkride Wednesday. I did the ACPP here, so I think they do ours last since we are already here and they do the people who came just for the CFI school first. I have no idea when the others will be once I am done with this one. As long as I can get one done and start making $ I'll be happy.

Sounds great! How did you find the course and who are you doing your Initial with? I heard the rumor of many were still "unfinished" with the last class that went through...... I am way nervous but its exciting at the same time....

They just cover a lot of stuff. I don't know who my initial is with, I'll let you know when I do it. I think most people only got one done, I'm not sure. I went to the interviews last week, so I wasn't there for the last Sunday or Monday. I think they were just sitting around waiting to fly, though. I'm just excited about moving on.

You need to get your wife in touch with our ATP wives/alumni wives group. There's two others of us living in town. We can feel her pain.

Alright, so who's going to get us a JAX M&G going? We have a few people here now, from the sound of it, I have a few days off, so let me know when y'all have time free to get together...

good luck! I did my CFI's there Feb 06 and instructed in JAX til Sept 06. Walt is all knowing, if you have any off the wall questions he can answer them, trust me. He's a great teacher, just have to deal with all the same jokes though. He is a walking FAR/AIM! Tell John the manager over there, Chris from Colgan says hi...
