Would instructing for another 500 hours in 172s and PA44s or similar teach that guy anything about flying a jet though? Maybe but probably not.
Kell, I am with you on the gaps in training thing. Do any airlines let the new hires go out and fly the plane for an hour or two to get used to it at all? I know they do at Great Lakes, I think they get about 5 hours of stalls and shooting approaches but I haven't heard of this happening with other carriers? To me, you can learn alot from doing some slow flight and some steep turns.
