JetBlue and XJT...

They may realize it's cheaper to play with the regionals than to own their own aircraft.

If that were the case wouldn't you think the company would've ordered 145's instead of 190's or Airbi? Or created a "holding company" and then outsourced ALL of the flying to regionals?

50 seat jets just aren't cost effective. They were a replacement for the turboprop back when gas was $0.25/gal, not $2.00+. Back then fuel burn really wasn't much of an issue.

To put that more into perspective, at $0.25/gal a CRJ would burn around $90/hr in gas. At $2.00, that figure is more like $700/hr. Quite a difference.

Saw two XJT aircraft today in BOS pushing back from the Jetblue terminal and taxi out behind us. I must say, I do like the new color scheme on the Jetlinky Aeroplanes.

I see what Cav is saying, and I tend to agree with him on this one. It would take two ERJs to cover the seating capacity of one 190 whereas one Airbus could do it, and the flying wouldn't need to be outsourced. Wouldn't you be pissed if due to staffing issues some of our CRJs were replaced with Colgan B1900s or Saabs?

We do have staffing issues. HA!

but If he said 190s covered by an ERJ145 thats one thing. but airbuses? I dont think so. YOu arent going to see a an XJT rj on LGB to JFK runs, or JFK to SJU. I see the point he is trying to make but I dont buy the RJs taking over Airbuses statement

I think what he was saying is they just let some Airbuses go that could have subbed on the 190 routes instead of outsourcing them. That would make sense to me.

Yep. We're doing routes like to places like BUF where I have seen Airbuses in the past. That's all I was trying to say. It's never good to see things outsourced especially at a place that has historically handled things in house.

Definately a temporary gig folks...

We are flying to support their 190 downtime... that's it. When the 190's are back on the line... we're outta there.

Bob

Hey Cap't, I saw one of your newly painted ERJ's in JFK yesterday. It looked nice. Are you guys still flying into JFK under CO out of CLE?

Glad you liked it. Once folks see it in person... that seems to be the consensus.

Yes... we still fly JFK-CLE under COEX.

Bob

Pic on the JetBlue Ramp...

Is it still winter up there in NY?

First reports from Day 1 show the operation has been positive all around. The JB rampers have been SUPER and everyone worked hard on both ends to make it work.

No cancellations or major delays... phew... :)

Bob

If it means anything I got to clear both of them into the gate and played a small role in the parking configuration again if any of you XJT guys have a Kennedy trip let me know coffees on the rabbi

I love the paint scheme. It isn't the same blue/red/white as every other airline out there right now. It is unique. Unique is good. It's new, it's fresh. Kinda like JetBlue's blue uniform shirts. Outside the paradigm... :D

I saw two or three of those badboys on the ramp of an FBO in OKC everyday while I was TDY'd there. Business must be good. I know they are flying some of the teams in the Big 12 tournament.

So any of you XJT guys get a Kennedy trip, Come on Coffee is on me, I'll give you a tour of the Jetblue Oops center, (no I did not spell OPS wrong it is the Oops center everytime we do something we say oops) PM me if yall get over hea

From what i know the E-190's have suffered inflight failures due to Embraer issues and also GE Engine Issues (not a very good model for GE). They are putting them all in the shop to Fix a couple critical parts that will prevent diversions to military bases and also non B6 airports. ( you can probably do a search to learn about what happend with previous E-190 Emergency Landings)

The flying that ExpressJet is doing is temporary. I actually find it hard to believe that jetBlue didn't utilize a fellow Mormon Company .... Skywest.... however i think it had something to do possibly with the commonality between the two aircraft (ERJ 145 & EMB 190) and the jetblue ramp and customer service crews working the flights, and thus giving them less training. Some might say that this is a pre curser of things to come (using regional codeshare) however i have heard almost 50% of Jetblue Pilots are wanting a union so i doubt managment would mess with that anytime soon.

The E-190 feels like a minature 737. if you ever have the opprotunity to ride on one its awsome, its not the typical regional jet it has more cabin room and the seats dont have that annyoning divider bar in the seat in front of you where you put your feet its all open.

Cheers......

Maybe that's b/c I don't consider it a REGIONAL jet......Anything with that many seats is a mainline airplane. It only has about 14 fewer seats than a CAL 737-500. That ain't a regional jet.

And surreal, I was thinking the same thing.

Its not an RJ. Its an Ejet. And it should be flown by mainline pilots at mainline wages. The managers want you to think its an RJ, so they can pay $65 an hour for a Capt. to fly it...like B6 does.

I dont think it has anything to do with religion or fleet commonality. As a gate agent you only care about number of seats. For ramp agents, as long as the tow bar hooks up and the GPU plugs in, its all the same. I think it has to do with Expressjet having planes to spare since CAL farmed out some of their flying. Whereas Skywest doesnt.

I'm not sure what religion has to do with it either

(it really doesn't)
