E190 SPECIAL MOD LINE ANNOUNCED

Since mid-February we have been sending our E190 aircraft to Embraer’s North American maintenance facility in Nashville to have a number of upgrades incorporated that, when completed, are expected to greatly improve the technical dispatch performance of the fleet. Over the next two months, more than 30 modifications will be embodied on each aircraft.

In order to support this modification program we will reduce the number of E190 operational spares from two to one aircraft, and this, combined with lower than acceptable technical dispatch performance on top of a 6-week delivery schedule delay has resulted in a number of operational disruptions. To help support our operation without unduly impacting our A320 fleet and crews, which are often called upon to fill in for E190s, we will contract up to four ExpressJet Embraer ERJ145 commuter jet aircraft (50-seat) to support up to two lines of E190 flying during this modification schedule.

We will contact Customers on those flights that will have the substitution in advance, and we will offer $25 Vouchers to compensate Customers for the reprotection on ExpressJet.

Just heard today... It's a temporary deal only... but hey... still pretty cool to be supporting JetBlue Ops...

Hope we don't screw it up. :)

If I were a Jetblue guy I'd be pretty angry. They just got rid of a few Airbuses which could have covered the flying. For their sake I truely hope that it's temporary and not "temporary" if you know what I mean. Besides, wouldn't you think Jetblue feels they are atleast partly in competition with us in the not so distant future? Sounds like a much better deal for us than them.

This is case and point why a union is necessary in this business. Got scope??
 
I have to second Cav's sentiments that I hope this is temporary and not a sign of future outsourcing of even JBU's flying.

They may realize it's cheaper to play with the regionals than to own their own aircraft.
 
Agreed. Good for XJT in the short run, hopefully better for everyone in the long run once the 190s get back up and running.

I'm betting the jetBlue passengers aren't gonna like this, though.
 
I think Jetblue chartered a few North American 767/757s as well as World Aircraft a few weeks ago to move the passengers that were stranded.

Once again folks, todays HOT place to be could be tommorows media punching bag.

When the whole situation with jetBlue went down around Lover's day I had to jumpseat with them up front to get home. They had a North American 757 and an Omni aircraft also at their gates. When I asked what was going on, they told me it really was rock bottom for them during that time. I would like to thank all the B6 guys who have given me a ride to and from work. I'm positive that everything will work out for you guys/gals.

Do their pilots fly the charter aircraft, or do the charter company supply crews?

airbuses and 50 seat RJs are like comparing apples to oranges. Scope is a good thing, but this comparison is bit of a stretch.
 
I see what Cav is saying, and I tend to agree with him on this one. It would take two ERJs to cover the seating capacity of one 190 whereas one Airbus could do it, and the flying wouldn't need to be outsourced. Wouldn't you be pissed if due to staffing issues some of our CRJs were replaced with Colgan B1900s or Saabs?
 
Well, that's great they are still being paid. . . but the flying was still outsourced due to management's poor judgement of months to years past.

I do have to say though, as an outsider of JBU and more imporantly NE US Aviation companies . . . they are doing it the way that they should, treating their customers with respect, and still paying their crews for their displacement as well. Just have to make sure it doesn't get out of hand.
 
Definately a temporary gig folks...

We are flying to support their 190 downtime... that's it. When the 190's are back on the line... we're outta there.
