UUUUUGHHHHHH today was a huge mess

You mean engine FIRE flight right?

I've always known it as "F$#k The Mother F$#king Heater". I like yours better though. There used to know a really really nasty one about electrical fire I think. It's been a long time since I've heard it and I was so scared of accidently saying it that I never mememorized it that way. Electrical fire is easy though.
i was taught F### the Mother F###ing Environmentals

i like that on start one, that is good

Oh yeah, seriously we are not little kids! Why does UND care about how we talk to each other in the aircraft. Not all of us come from a town of 20 where "bad words" are never spoken.

it actually IS against SOP's!!

not joking!

It is. Another reason why I switched instructors. "I'm sorry, but it is against SOP's to cuss."

I'm sorry, but if the occassional f-word or sheeit slips out of my mouth, I don't want to hear someone telling me like they're my grandmother to not cuss. I don't really cuss when in a professional environment, but if I make a bad landing there's a good chance you'll hear a nice annunciated "F--K!!!!!!!"

Yeah...for some reason, my instructors get really scared when I curse. They think I'm about to kill the world for swearing.

Ok, well I shouldn't say that, MOST of them don't like it, but I've had a few who do it themselves. Those are the cool instructors.

I don't like those instructors that act all proper even outside the airport or aviation buildings, such that if you try chatting with them at a store, they'll still treat is as a briefing. Gay.

Sadly those are the ones that just don't have a personality and are an absolute hell to fly with on a cross country. I'm sorry, but if I'm doing a dual flight more than 100 miles, I expect the conversation to be something other than aviation at some point.

Exactly.

Okay Okay Okay Okay guys. Instead of making a RANT number two I am going to just continue it on here.

So today, I got weathered. But thats really not the main reason for being frusterated. Its the fact that I can not go up with the stage pilot till TUESDAY. I had a launched planned to move on on 15 on Saturday and then the sim for 16 on Sunday! But now i have to wait till Tuesday.

Why cant he fly till Tueday? UND does not have any launches available. I already had a launch in for noon on saturday because I figured I better make a launch for the 15 because I was watching it fill up. He has a sim at 11:30 so he cant do that. He has class on Monday afternoon and morning and there are no other launches for Saturday or Sunday. Not only that, in order to stay prepared I am going to have to do another review flight on Monday. More $$$.

So I got frusterated and I told myself that if I wasnt flying I was not going to be in North Dakota this weekend. I called Alaska Airlines and spent 25,000 milage points and here I am in MSP headed to SEA to see my girl friend after three weeks of not seeing her. I get back Sunday night with out missing any flying. Girl friend is really happy to see me and I am happy to see her but I would rather be on lesson 16 by the end of the weekend.

Tell me, Why should I stay at UND again? Why should I spend four years/ five years if I want to have a real degree. UND needs to expand there fleet.

I came to the wrong school to be on the fast path to making flying a career.

Newsflash: People do not progress fast in the training if you constantly fly only once or twice a week with several breaks in training.

If I dont get done by March 31st, I am screwed. I am not going on spring break just to stay and fly. Its my goal to finish before spring break but if it takes tons of times for each stage check then it will not happen.

Guys, it's a professionalism thing. Would you think highly of a doctor if they dropped the f-bomb around you in their office?

TheShocker: Swearing isn't about how big of a city you come from. Why would it be? You guys really need to stop making everything out to be a big city/small town pissing match.

And Jace: The cockpit is a "professional environment."

Have fun in SEA and enjoy the nice change of weather.

About your situation, consider that everybody has been getting weathered this past week, so all of us snatched up available launches this weekend. That's probably why you can't get one. It's really not a fleet issue. The only aircraft we really have issues with fleet wise is the Seminole when everybody is on the night flights.

And Jace: The cockpit is a "professional environment."

Let me ask you this. Would you, as me paying you $42/hr as instructor, snap at me for cussing?

The cockpit is a professional environment indeed, but an occasional casual cuss word isn't going to degrade the cockpit's professionality in the training environment.

I can see it being an issue if someone excessively dropped the f-bomb (come on, no one wants to hear F-this, F-that), but occasional use in a TRAINING environment isn't a problem.

If you and the doctor were buddies, who the hell cares? There are appropriate and innappriate times to cuss. In the cockpit with your flight instructor who is in the same age group as you, it's usually fine to freely use "sheeit!" or "Jesus Christ!!!!!!" (which isn't a cuss word at all in my book...and if it offended anyone I'd laugh at them profusely).

Thanks. I know that the demand for planes on weekends are going up because of the crappy wx. It is becoming harder and harder for students to finish flight labs on time.

All these stage checks slow your training. I think stage 14 is not really needed. Your CFI should be able to determine if you are safe to solo in the practice area. I just feel sick when I am not flying. I need to get done by March 31st, or all the money I have spent is going to go down the drain.

BTW, I am going to need a CFI during spring break if anyone of you guys want to take me on.

I’m sorry that you’re (for whatever reason) not having success with your flight training.

I’d have to say that you’re having a very abnormal experience here at UND (from what I’ve seen through my time spent here), and that this is not something that the majority of students experience.

BTW, when it comes to scheduling an aircraft for a stage check, it doesn’t matter that there aren’t any airplanes available to schedule. Scheduling will “force add” you and you’ll have priority when you turn in your slip for the airplane.

Jace, the way you used “H***” there very much offends me... :)

I have to agree with CAFF here. The cockpit should be a “professional” atmosphere. I, personally, wouldn’t flip out if a student drops an occasional “f-bomb.” But, if it were said frequently there would definitely be a problem. I think it also very much depends on the student/instructor relationship as to what’s said in the cockpit. Some people get offended by things you wouldn’t imagine.

“You never get a second chance to make a good first impression”

a) call scheduling and have them add you. its a stage. theyll override you for whatever time you want.

dont waste money on review flights. STUDY. hell, ESPECIALLY with stage 14 theres NOTHING you need the plane to practice on, load up flight sim and go at it. chair fly. read and re-read. a review flight for stage 14 is a waste of time and money.

lose the girlfriend.

there is, and always will be others. school should be your priority for now. buck up, hit the books, and finish. then you can have time for whatever romantic stuff you want. or find a girl here, theres some out-of-state/international ones that aint too bad. (obviously stay away from the local livestock)

if you wanted a fast track, go to ATP. myself, and most others here came here to kill two birds with one stone (degree and ratings simulaneously...on student loans! ;-))

Newsflash: People do not progress fast in the training if you constantly fly only once or twice a week with several breaks in training.

getting stopped or held up for a week or two, even more, happens once in a while. theres NO reason however that theres weeks between EVERY lesson. make an effort to get out there and fly ANY time possible and you can do it. so far, taking breaks to go see girlfriend or whatever doesn't really convince me you're trying to take every possibility to get your flying in.

If I dont get done by March 31st, I am screwed. I am not going on spring break just to stay and fly. Its my goal to finish before spring break but if it takes tons of times for each stage check then it will not happen.

good luck, pass the stages on the first attempt, and study study study study study. theres no reason to unsat/repeat lessons.

a) yes the cockpit should be professional, but that doesn't mean it needs to be uptight and purely formal all the time

b) occassional expletives, fine. not knowing how to speak without swearing, yeah thats a problem.

c) i would jump out the damn storm window if my instructor wanted to keep it strictly aviation talk on a 3 hour xc. and jesus i hope employers spot those types in the interview process. would YOU want to be on a three-day excursion with that guy in a jet?? heeeeeeell no.

I had to re-read your post, because I actually agree with everything you’ve said. Well said.

A) Nah, I agree it should be somewhat relaxed, but within reason.

B) Ok. Would you do that on a checkride though? Even once?

C) There are times on flights where other conversation is certainly okay to have. In the traffic pattern, however, is not the place to be shooting the breeze.
