CFIs Needed

sad isn't it? hopefully he will quickly grow out of it
What? how is this sjs? This job doesn't even have jets. As a matter of fact, I don't even have any aspirations to fly a jet.

What wrong with me wanting to fly a twin star? The pay is good, and the benefits are great.

Well, both the planes and the pay are better on the Sierra side of the MER ramp.

We sometimes have trouble starting the Alaruses, but we've never had one catch fire and close the runway for 2 hours.

Also we are getting rid of them. But for the most part, I'd have to say we have better aircraft, and the pay is about tripple so.........

There are two Beech Ducheses for multi training. I got hired with just my CFI and 10 hours of instruction given. The students are Indian, Japanese and Malaysian. I am flying about 6-8 hours a day 6 days a week.
They still want to get 10 more planes which will probably be more C-152s and Symphonies.

You ####ing scored! :sarcasm:

You have that piece of #### brown Duchess whose engines die every couple months right? I hope you guys don't screw the other Duchess up, since it's not owned by ASA anyway. Maintainance is a joke. Did holy prince tell you you guys are getting 10 more planes? I hope you don't screwed like they've screwed so many others. Good luck.

Actually that brown Duchess used to belong to Sierra. About 5 years ago it diverted to MER due to a mechanical problem. It was more or less abandoned there. I'm not sure what happened between then and now, but its ASA's now.

LOL!

That is all.

Is this place still hiring? I sent a rewsume/cover letter about 2 weeks ago, but I've heard nothing from them yet. There are 2 other places that I've interviewed, and they both offered me a job. I'm waiting on this place to contact me back because it's my first preference. Should I keep on waiting, or just assume they don't need me and take one of the other jobs? I saw on AOPA they have an ad saying they prefer MEI's with at least 300TT and 100 dual given (I am not even close on neither)

That ad is old. Check your PMs.

Is this going to be a pretty long term deal with these Chinese students -- and Sierra Academy training them at Atwater? I'm not even a CFI yet, but in a year or so, this sounds like it would be an excellent opportunity if it is still going on. This place is so close to my house back home/family...it would make it really sweet!

We're just finnishing up with our first crops of Air China and Shanghai airlines students, and we just got some new students from China Eastern, and also our next wave of Air China. Another round of Shanghai is due shortly. We're getting more studnets in than we are sending out. Its safe to say it'll be a contiuous operations for some time.

What all the Alaruses, I dont think so...

Gentlemen, I applaud you for not allowing this wonderful thread about a good opportunity to escalate into a turf war.

I'll say this: no school is perfect. This opportunity, however, is a very good opportunity, and there may be very few instructing opportunities in this country that beats this.

Neil, you and I both know Sierra is not perfect, but this whole discussion got started when he said he didn't want to work at Sierra because he didn't want to take the entrance exam. He was willing to settle for 1/3 the pay. That kind of struct a nerve because it is that exact attitude that leads to PFT/PFJ and pilot salaries getting lower and lower. What will happen when our CEO finds out that there are pilots out here willing to settle for $1000 per month?

For the most part I have no problem with ASA. I've talked with some of their instructors and they are nice guys, very friendly. But it enrages me when I have to go around 3 times every time I come into the pattern due to 6 ASA planes doing touch & go's with complete disreguard to the agreements the two schools have set forth with each other. We have those agreements in the interrest of safety, and they ignore them, preaching their incredible safety practices.

And for crying out loud guys, your radios work fine, and if there is anyone on base or final they would have made calls stating so unless they are not using thier radio in which case they won't answer you anyway. Try looking out the window. Sorry, had to get all that off my chest.

Just venting, eh? :)

Don't let the exam comment get to you, man. When it's time to move on, most places require an exam anyway, so chances are he may have to take one.

What would the CEO do? Isn't it nice to know that this wonderful forum, as valuable as it is, is not on the top of his to-do list? :)

As for the traffic and radio issues, just keep telling yourself "the tower will be here soon". :)

Maybe I should have just taken a page from the Guru's book and said "LOL...that is all." :)

Ok I didn’t realize the difference in pay, so why don’t you stop worrying about why I didn’t care to take the exam? Ill most likely be moving on as soon as I get my CFII/MEI anyway.

Ok my turn to vent...

My current count of being cut off in the pattern is up to 6 now (all sierra pilots)

And nobody cares that Alarus ...Alpha Mike is taxing from the Sierra Ramp to runway 31… Especially when the CTAF freq. is super busy.

Great. Now that all the ventings have been completed (and the thread hijacked), let's close this. I could pose an argument myself, but this is not the place. This is JOB POSTINGS. Fact is, this is a great place to work in spite of any problems within or in dealing with other schools or pilots.

If it wasn't for this thread, I wouldn't have gotten this job, and I'm grateful for that.
