Godspeed Spirit

There’s a lot of things that aren’t really in the scope of their job. I haven’t filed a flight plan in over a decade because I haven’t needed to, it’s someone else’s job. Same with weight and balance and performance numbers.
Do you still have those skills? Without outside help can you safely operate your airplane?

I’m sure Nomadic has apps for all of that. To think guys will turn down flying these trips because they have to file a flight plan and click a few buttons is laughable, but either way, they found enough pilots because the planes are in Arizona.
They actually have a dispatch department. Watch some of Steve's videos and you can see that a lot of that is handled. Their iPads I believe do their W&B and yes, a lot of the airplanes lack ACARS, SATCOM and, in some cases, FMS databases, but they get the job done.

Yup. They land here at MZJ, Mx tells them to shutdown on the taxiway and asks their fuel and oil quantity is, a tug is already hooking up as the flight crew leaves the plane; and it’s immediately towed across the runway to the storage section. Some that have already been here before the closure, are at death row, in north or south scrapping.

You're told you're now unemployed and someone calls and says they'll pay you to do it one more time and you'd say no? Why?
Commercial pilots say no to flying opportunities all the time for any number of reasons.

Unemployed pilots are no different.

If I lost my job I’d want to spend every day looking for a new gig instead of spending a day or two flying a plane to the boneyard. Also, I wouldn’t want to delay any unemployment benefits. For me, I might need a bit of time to get my head straight after being fired. I wouldn’t want to take the stress and anxiety of pending unemployment on an emotional farewell flight that might include a couple of curveballs.

Same pay and benefits; I would be back air ambo tomorrow.

Fair enough. I appreciate your perspective.

Has that been confirmed anywhere? I’ve heard that rumor, but also seen elsewhere he has a different middle name than the name on the scab list.

Not to mention if the strike was in 1989, and I’m guessing he’s about 60 years old.. that would’ve made him maybe 23 at the time? Certainly still possible given the line of work he’s in though.
I wasn't sure if it was true or not, but Bob was on Reddit recently and admitted it and gave his reasons for doing so. I assume it is actually him as some of his other posting are pretty specific and make it more likely than not that it's him and not an imposter.

Yeah. Not a scab situation at all.

Operations ceased, pilots were terminated, trustee had to approve all expenditures. Leasing company allowed to protect assets.

Beyond that, the repo pilots (repossession not repositioning) is an odd biz. Company guys may not be comfortable operating without dispatch and company mx. I can’t see Spirit guys fighting for the flight to the boneyard.
Nomadic has a pretty robust team with a lot of experience including dispatchers. They had a podcast a few weeks back where they had a conversation with a couple of the dispatch folks and they very experienced in moving jets through very complex airspace. Moving some Airbi that had flown pt 121 revenue flights within the US would be a cake walk for them...especially with the BK court order(s) allowing them to do damn near anything to get the jets where the lessors wanted them.

I don't see any justification of why he scabbed at Eastern. I see his justification of why he hates ALPA (and APA I guess) because of what happened *after* EAL shutdown... but he was already a scab by then.
