Yes. I was a young, cool FO on the CRJ, and then I suddenly was an old (at 26), not so cool Captain. I haven't really experienced that so much this time around though... maybe because I was an old (at 40), not so cool FO already.

Yeah, I’d say my OE experience was great. They were all good. Even the final “checkride” LCP who i later found out was someone people bid avoid. If he is an a hole, he didn’t show it at all. We had some proper giggling time. And he let me keep going on what started out as a very unstable visual when SEA APP dropped us off high and fast and close, and where for a moment, I had no idea what to do with my hands……and then reverted to FDs off/automation off/look outside and do pilot • and got stablized by the config gate or at least spooled by 500’ (our old last gate). In fairness to the guys out there who have gripes with our training dept, I probably just have too much PTSD from Navy flight school, and anyone who says “you did a nice job” is both confusing, and endearing to me :) But to your point, I dont think OE should be a funeral procession. Don’t be an a hole, and on the longer layovers, go have dinner and a beer or two with the old guy. They might teach you more there than in the jet (I had to say that word for @Skåning )

Weird thing is, I’m used to the silence now for landing. Just watch, if we get 50, 40, 30, 20, 10, I’ll be pounding them on LOL
