SWA TA Discussion

No.

Basically a Captain is having a public meltdown because the TA fixes FO pay percentages relative to other companies, so percentage wise relatively junior FO's would get a bigger raise than captains.

As a result of these injustices he plans to slam click, no longer buy drinks for new hires (a tradition here) or do any walkarounds, and give 30 minute debriefs on flying technique, radio usage, uniform standards, and mistakes at the end of each trip.

I was giggling just typing all of that out, it sounded like satire at first but friends have flown with him and apparently he's already kind of a nightmare so... I'm inclined to think it's real.

If there was an airline • of the year award, he showed up at the end of the match with a steel chair.
It’s been pretty wild. I’m a first year FO and this is my first time dealing with a union or a contract, so that stuff is slightly concerning when guys act like that. I came to WN because I wanted the culture and so far, the captains have all been awesome dudes that want to help me make the rest of my career go smoothly.

Never trust someone senior to you with your career. They’ll always make the decision that benefits themself.

Trust someone junior to you even less. And definitely don’t let them walk behind you on the staircase. 😏

The claim this morning is that it was all just sarcasm and a joke but I dunno... the guy's posting history does *not* support that in my opinion.

On the darker side of things, of course some people have taken it way too far and looked the guy up and sent threats to him and his family... so if you ever wondered why we can't have nice things... this is why.

That sounds on brand for our little disfunctional family.

Why threaten his family? What do they have to do with anything? So amazingly stupid and childish, all around. By supposedly educated people.

This is the most Southwest thing ever

good lord. Honestly, even if the guy were serious, who cares? I didn't come to the airlines to have some random dude buy me dinner, and if the guy really has the mental fortitude to "debrief" for 30 mins, there would be 5 people in the crew van telling the driver that the other guy is getting his own ride to the hotel. Threatening this dude's family? WTF

I remember arguing about this during the first Pinnacle TA debacle, checks a calendar, 15ish years ago. How the hell did that much time go by already?

Captains were all complaining because FO raises were a higher percentage than CA raises. "Um yeah, I'm getting a higher percentage, but you're getting $15/hour vs my $10/hr. You know that makes your raise bigger than mine right?" BUT PERCENTAGES came the inevitable reply.

I don't miss the union drama of 121 flying a single bit.

It's a pretty wild scenario.

If it was a joke, he took it way too far. Most of the responses were "Really? You must be fun to work with" and there would be a reply that pushed it a little further, like " Im not a nice guy, so add me to the avoid list"

So it's hard to think it's JUST a joke. As he is obviously peeved at this TA. It was not a one off comment. There were MULTIPLE responses pushing the envelope. This feels like a "Dude, you should try to say it was a joke" from above reaction.

That being said, the Memes are pretty good, but the threats are uncalled for. Whether he was joking or not, that was unnecessary and any normal person understands that.

I suppose I don't care if it was a joke or not. He's apologized now and if it wasn't a joke he's learned something important and if it was a joke, well he had nothing to learn except to be better at comedy.

He's gonna treat people how he treats people, that'll be the real test.
