Yep, sorry the way I wrote that was confusing. I also barely even read the lines when I bid since it doesn't really matter yet, so I am pretty ignorant about our trips/routes thus far.

Oh I see. Ya, do what @BEEF SUPREME suggested and get bid pairings. SEA does a lot of Mexico flying, I mean in comparison to what I’ve become accustomed to. It’s been good for me to get out of my bubble up north. I’m not in love with commuting, but the rest of it has been a blast.

Get bidpairings.com Bid for everything but the stuff you really can't deal with. For me it's red eyes. After that bid for the open flying. Then bid for reserve. It will keep getting better provided our airline can still hire and operate.

If you need help with anything please feel free to contact me.

Thanks and I appreciate it! I know a couple CAs have mentioned it to me, but I have filed away as future useful knowledge only applicable to bid block holder types. As a slight derail, I have bid only OF followed by the SCR raps I want. Have only been awarded SCR, though I can now hold the lines I want. Would LCR be a good move? I'm 2 hrs from base, so no real "commute", but I have also seen how bad the LC CAs get jerked around.

I can't do red eyes. So I'd never touch LCR. There is too much risk in terms of how badly Crew Scheduling can come up with some inhumane yet legal schedule. The way I look at it is if your SCR you can bid for the early AM stuff and mostly avoid red eyes.

All that being said if you're OK with red eyes LCR doesn't seem like an awful way to go.

I really wish we had gotten red eye override with our latest contract. Not because I want the money, but because people who are OK with red eyes would be.

^ I'd like to see Adak. My old man has lots of stories about taking the P2V up there in the old days, would be cool to see it for myself.
Straight up, if I was a Cold War naval aviator I think Adak would have been a badass and underrated duty assignment.

Why?

Why what? Why does my body not work well with red eye flying or why are they mostly assigned to people on LCR?

Oh I see the bold face now. Welp. It's hard to explain to people who can sleep during the day but I just can't. The sun comes up and my body is raging to go outside and run around.

It's extremely difficult for me to stay up late. Staying up until the sun comes up again just means I can't sleep until the sun goes down again. At that point I shouldn't operate a can opener not to mention an airplane.

this is interesting because I used to be the opposite. Basically my ideal period for me to be awake is like 11am to 3am…I get more work done, am more productive etc.

wake me up routinely at 5 or 6 and after a few weeks of that I’m utterly worthless to the world and I spend my whole weekend recovering just in time for the next week, even if I try to make a concerted effort to be in bed by 8 or 9 asleep no later than 10…

what I think I should do is just slowly travel west as my body clock shifts further towards local 11am, then I could wake up and be ready for work and at my peak state lol

Yeah, I have held 0730-1000 SCR RAP starts since I've been on the line. I've asked for them primarily because it nearly assures that an early callout wouldn't end up being a traffic disaster in the AM commute, but that is really a holdover from the 2 hr call in the old contract as well as not realizing that most of the time, I'd get notified the night before. But I do like that it gives me time to wake up and collect myself before I'm actually on duty, and I end my day at a reasonable time if I'm not assigned anything. I haven't had many redeyes, but I've had a few. They seem to get creative enough with 3 days to give you one. The 3 day that is actually a 4 day in calendar day terms. I guess I don't mind them that much, but it isn't fun by any means. That being said, the trip construction when I get one generally burns me in some way so that the 5th day is just hanging at home (most of the time). So I guess it isn't all bad. I think I will stick with SC though......getting all weekends off next month as a bottom of the base list guy isn't too bad. I'd hardly characterize the last few months as being jerked around much.....at least not compared to what I was used to in military flying

Yeah he got to do some cool stuff in the late 50's/60s/70s. One of the things they would do back in his first few years (circa 1958) is fly dry (nuke mining) runs against the harbor in Vladivostok. I don't know exactly how close they got, but it was a lot closer than you would get today. This being slightly before the area was equipped with SAMs and reliable point defense fighters. Wasn't ever based in Adak, but I guess they would do short duration detachments up there with a plane and a crew.

Jesus, that’s a long flight round trip is over 4000Nm from padk to Vladivostok lol, what a billy badass.

imagine doing a 4000nm flight where you have to find a airport in the aleutians when you land lol.

That’s why I’d hope to incentivize this kind of flying for people like you. This guy needs more money. And I’m totally down with that.
