2022 Christmas meltdown Competition enteries

When I was working in market research for a healthcare IT firm I designed a survey for doctors using a $5 Amazon gift card as an incentive. My bosses joked that I was wasting my time, as no doctor would give up 10-minutes for such a low reward. We hit the survey response quota within 24-hours.

its not the amount. its the act of getting something for free.... :-)

Poor Americans. Zero understanding of how doctors spend their money. Newsflash, doctors are some of the stingiest groups of people you’ll come across. ABSOLUTELY they fly Spirit.
YOU have zero understanding of how they spend their money. My wife is a doc / specialist and she sure as hell isn’t buying tickets on spirit. Even though they employ me

My wife wonders why I wanted to just drive across country…. Who’s laughing now honey?

I’ll bet SWA spins this into something positive.

I don’t think that’s possible. My non-aviation friends are texting me memes they’re seeing about Southwest everywhere. This is a PR catastrophe.

My neighbor is like 25 or 26. He's a ramper at Sky Harbor for SWA. He told me that they're either asked, expected or mandoed into working OT almost every shift. He said its not uncommon for him to work a 16-18 hr. shift. He said if something happens in the system, like canceled, repo'd or late flights. Expect possibly a 24 hr. shift. He said its not too uncommon for him or others just to sleep in the breakroom. Because its just easier than going back home, after working all that, because they're still expected to report for their scheduled shift time the next day, if not given accomadation.

He says starting pay is $15 an hr in PHX. But with all his OT. he easily makes almost six figures. He says that he's kind of trapped (golden handcuffs) because with OT he makes really good money. But he finds himself seriously stressed the "f" out a lot. Tired and it's putting a serious strain on his relationship with his gf cause he's never home. He says he can't always make plans because he doesn't know what his schedule will be. He says both his days off and vacations have been canceled before due to staffing. He says he seriously thinks about quitting at least several times a week. But that he can't afford it.

Here’s the dirty little secret: it’s always been that way at Southpest. This isn’t new. They were just able to get away with it before. Now their aging, more senior workforce is finally calling BS and refusing to play ball. They’re just another legacy at this point, but with worse work rules, crappier technology, and no career advancement opportunities to speak of.

Something tells me you’ve been the smartest person in every room you’ve ever entered. That’s pretty cool

No. My opinion comes from being in a family of doctors growing up with pretty much doctor family friends and observing their behavior, spending habits, etc. And some personal friends I know now that are doctors.

You just described every 135 out there. And most 91’s.

This really doesn’t mean anything. In 10+ years of my professional pilot career traveling all over the US regularly to/for work and for fun/family. I have never once flown Spirt. I have never even worked for a company that considered it either. Even when making 45k a year as a pilot. And as a guy in his 30s with no wife or kids…I fly a lot.

We fly them mostly for convenience. I get free positive space passes on my own airline but you have to go through SEA. I did that once. LA to SEA (nearly 3 hr block) then 2 hr layover to fly 4.5 hrs to DTW or PIT. With young kids, it dawned on us by the time we boarded the redeye to the east coast in SEA, we’d already be there with a nonstop out of LAX. The PIT to LAX nonstop is only in Spirit. No one else does it. DTW to LAX is only either Spirit or Delta.

Out of PIT, things fell apart after US Airwya shuttered the hub. Allegiant made a base here. Spirit at one point had a lot departures to various random cities. Brother had a conference to MYR, took the Spirit nonstop. It was way too convenient. No point for him connecting through ORD or ATL.

Do people go out of their way to fly NK? No, probably not. But does Spirit offer convenience for a lot of people all over the income spectrum? Yes, yes it does.

I suspect this has more to do with your circle of acquaintances rather than being doctor-specific behavior.

They aren’t just subcontinent doctors, if that’s the racist thing you were trying to imply. Ah who am I kidding. I’ll give you that. We are cheap a-holes. The richer we get, the stingier we are. Not all obviously, but a fairly decent portion, absolutely.

I work with Dr.'s daily. There are several that are arrogant, petty and narcissistic. That only want to be called Dr. They're always wearing the most expensive new scrubs. And driving the new hotness six figure price tag car brand. They typically treat techs and nurses like complete •. Typically that type is American.

Arab and E. Indian doctors are typically very kind and very approachable and very down to earth.

A nurse recently got chewed out, in front of everyone by a NP, excuse me DNP... sorry a doctor. Because they wrote NP on her folder. As you can see it was quickly changed. She ain't the type fling Spirit.

My non-aviation (and super-frequently traveling) brother in law figured out after flying JSX (and absolutely loving it) that I fly the same airplane at my Regional. He's making a case that Tara and I should move back to Dallas and I go to work for them.

Given the number of day trips from DAL, it's compelling, but the pay isn't quite there yet....

Isn't one of the biggest appeals going over to JSX their flow up to B6? Thought I remember that one, once upon a posting.

The only person I know not in the business that pays to ride on NK is the cheapest MF’r I know. As in makes probably a quarter-mill a year and after eating out I’ve added cash to their bill because he’s so god damn cheap. Their family lives near one air line’s hub which has direct flights from our local airport, but he’ll gladly drive past that airport to the next one because it has non-stop on NK for less. I have no idea the savings but added travel time and the piecemeal ticket structure doesn’t bother him. He can afford mainline, and occasionally does ride on the major air line but 90% he’s in the yellow bus.

Is it fun to make memes and jokes about the yellow bus, sure, but they have a product and pricing structure that people do seek out.

As always, please record your encounters on NK in landscape, not portrait. Thank you.
