New Alaska TA

Why would you think it couldn’t be done?

A single party can't modify CBA language without agreement of the other party. If you put a clause with single party cancellation in to the CBA how would you get it out if the other party didn't want to? I've never seen an example of a cancellation clause in an RLA covered contract. That's why I asked you for an example of one.

I’m not sure what you think is magical about an LOA, but it‘s simply a contract just like the main body. Whether you put cancellation language in an LOA or the main body, it works the same.

I emailed my rep about the vacation open time issue and it is still pending.

Yeah he mentioned that it’s fixed for the future but I was mostly concerned about the mass grievance for the last 2 years of abuse. What happens with that? The answer was it’s still pending.

I am glad we didn’t permanently lose it with the new contract however.

I'm not exactly sure about the grievance on your property or the specifics of the mechanism that you have for vacation - but I would still take a deep dive and ask about the intent behind this line... because the word "unbid" sounds to me like the mechanism only allows for initial weeks of unbid vacation to go into a open pot. This doesn't seem to address other ways vacation could still be awarded to a pilot and unused (weeks not sold back, but somehow abandoned through FMLA/Medical Leaves/Termination of employment/Retirement for instance) - thus losing a valuable summer vacation week (for instance) that could be awarded to another pilot through the open time process.

Yeah. They just took it away from us for 21 and 22. I couldn’t go to races and lost some side gig pay as a coach because of it. I’m still fairly steamed about it.

This sounds like a grievance where the choice of arbitrator is super important, and if you have the wrong one(s) lined up, it could be a disaster.

That said, like @ClearedForOption I know nothing about this specific issue.

This.

"We didn't think they'd do THAT" and LOA's over interpretation of what you thought was set-in-stone are normal.

See the language.

Wait, no, don't listen to me. I'm sure there will be people that show up that say that since I'm working in Flight Standards and Pilot Development and won Chairman's Club that I'm some management wonk. So scratch all that.

"It's been a day"
I would have signed your Chairman’s Club poster as a fellow LAX pilot but didn’t wanna creep you out and be a weirdo signing it with my JC tag… so I just stared at it for months until we moved lounges. That felt justifiably more normal.

There is a good meme out there, but WTF is with the crew meals that have the cheese and fruit, and another serving of the cheese and fruit? I love both those things, but I can only eat so much Brie cheese while sitting for 4 hrs. They’re trying to fatten us up for the left seat, aren’t they?

But how is cookie life? Those things smell so good.

I’ll be completely honest, today was the first time i ever tried the cookie, and it wasn’t even warm. Big letdown. I did have a smoked chicken and watermelon salad which was at least efficient.........80 miles to TOD, you gotta eat fast!
That's not a contract compliant cookie! Better grieve that.

I was catching a ride home one time and they didn't get served until right before TOD. It was gone in a hurry.

I got a salad a couple weeks ago that had ONE tomato in it .

Get used to it. Crew meals have the same variety as Jim Varney's acting range
