Regional airlines pros and cons

There's been a lot of noise around here about the WO thanks to a certain dude, but realistically - there's only so many regionals out there right now, and a casual observation on APC leads me to thinking that a vast majority of ATP mins dudes and dudettes haven't a slightest about the potential employers when they apply.
Do we have those visiting here? Not many lately, or maybe I just haven't seen them. Is it worth it writing something up to clear up the "fog of war"?

We've got
AA WO - Envoy, PSA and Piedmont
Endeavor
SkyWest
Republic
Mesa
CommutAir
Air Wisconsin
GoJet
Horizon

Anyone else I'm missing? Anyone feels like chiming in?

Silver, they're still around right?
They are, but they are their own airline. Same for Denver Air Connection, Contour Airlines etc
This is for a more "mainstream".

But then again, thinking about it, outside of lurkers I think the collective "we" managed to scare everyone away

What's there to discuss? All of the info for the regionals is on apc and how do most people choose a regional to work for? The bases and being offered the job.

I really like jetcareers especially the meet and greets in Vegas, but for myself I've been leaning more towards propilotworld and apc over the years. Ppw isn't free, but I find the money I spend for access is worth it for the jobs and info posted about those jobs.

I'm not saying that I choose where I work based off of the airline profiles pages, but you compare the amount of info available in their forums to the forums here it's not even a comparison. Especially when they have specific airline forums.

APC forums are like a flaming turd bag on your front porch. That goes for my former and current shop. I mean there's certainly some valuable info there but also 10x the amount of @Dacuj characters and people with nothing better to do than spread false information. This community I think is a lot more honest.

He has a point to a substantial extent, at least on the regional side.
It does take time and effort to sift through what's on APC, obviously, but frankly... after I got the interview date, I went back a year (more in a couple of threads) and read up on what's ppl been byatching about. Going in I had a pretty good idea of what to expect and the expectations were pretty much met.
Here - good group of people, some good pointers on certain limited things here and there, but in the recent few years it's mostly politics and BS. Certainly not much on regionals

I think there could be more but there's a lack of threads. Maybe the community is a bit smaller as well.

The community is much smaller, most people don't particularly publicly advertise where they work, whereas there people tend to post in the respective sections etc, plus here most are at their forever airlines, a minority is in the regionals

I was on PPW since it first started around 2007, after everyone left FlightInfo back in the day. It was good back then, particularly since I was a new commercial pilot looking to break into the corporate/part 91 world. I was on PPW for over 10 years, and did get an ok part 91 jet gig out of it.

There really aren’t a lot of airline guys on there though, nothing like here at JC. It’s also extremely right wing/conservative, to the point of even driving me off as a (at the time) moderate somewhat conservative person.

TLDR:

PPW is probably good for 91/135 guys if you can stand the politics and don’t mind paying a yearly fee.

Jetcareers is MUCH better if you’re looking for info and networking for the airlines.

APC has its uses I guess. But it’s extremely toxic and I would be hesitant to make any decisions based on what people say on there.

APC is good for getting very airline specific hiring info. That’s it. You won’t make lifelong friends there like you can on JC.

APC is like the comment section on Foxnews, some decent info but the VAST majority is chest beating and pissing contests (you don't fly for Airline A thus you are sh*tty pilot...fight me!)
News flash: pilots at all airlines found to put their pants on one leg at a time when pants are required.

I agree the vast majority of APC is chest beating / trolling, but some decent facts if you dig enough and find common themes. Jetcareers is where I found mentors and people I trusted enough to give me actual career advice like seniority progression, overall contract like soft pay > just APC pay rates. Did I choose a “sexy” regional? Hell no. But, at the time, it was the right choice for me and my priorities. Every regional sucks right now, no way around it…do some have better prospects than others? Yes.
Back to the original question though; I think it’s valuable to know what one is getting into, from someone on the inside. That said, I believe I’m the only one from my shop who’s active here. If anyone has questions about a little ATW based 200 only operator, I’m happy to offer my 2 cents.
