New BUR-based 737-800 LCC launching soon...as in on April 28th.

I flew with some guys that were there and shockingly it wasn't around long enough for them to go to recurrent

I guess it’s “Smug Startup” season again with the recovery starting.

“You legacies are just dinosaurs, people want bright colors, gimmicks and well, we’re gonna own Denver, just you wait!”

”Is that a Miami Air 737?”

When Virgin America was fighting to start in 2007, my mom got invited to the pre-launch mixer and brought me along. The front rows of the parking lot outside the headquarters had several different cars with Skybus license plate frames and\or stickers and Ohio plates. I know some of the A319s were leased from Virgin America while they were waiting to start, but guessing a decent amount of pilots hopped over.

I think I told this story here, before, but I had posted the one and only photo I ever got of Skybus on Jetphotos.net and made a slight in the remarks about how the F/As would aggressively try to sell useless crap to the pax enroute. Some executive there sent 17 year old me a big ass (you can totally say ass on here) "photographer contact" e-mail about how he was going to ask to use the pic, but never mind because I'm mean and rude, but I'm also wrong, because Skybus is great. More or less. I would sometimes check for the "first 9 seats being $9 on all flights" deal on OAK-CMH, and finally scored one around the same time as this e-mail took place. My overnight in CMH was not to be, as I was listening to the local ratchet hip hop station not even a few days later driving home from school and heard them say "Yo if any of y'all had tickets on Skybus from Oakland, they just went out of business and can no longer get you there, so y'all better go online and demand a refund". There was much laughing.

Well they did make the legacies flinch and they started Song and Ted.

I seem to recall a smoking hot take from @Derg the night Skybus went tits up. Everyone was dunking on Skybus and such and Doug comes on late and basically yelled at everyone and basically said there but for the grace of God go you in this business and such.

To confirm - Doug has always been a buzzkill! Then Velocipede went on to say that even the grandchildren of people who so much as applied to Skybus would be denied his jumpseat. Good times.

Also, didn't the Skybus guys dress up like forest rangers or something for a uniform?

My sister lives in CMH, she got her family tix down somewhere in FL, called me up all ticked off when they tanked. I told her it could have been worse, at least she was at home when it happened, instead of halfway through her vacation...

Everybody I know that went there had no expectations, but they were PIC typing everybody, including FOs (back when you only needed an SIC checkout for 121), and having the type, and time in it, would help getting the Asia and Sandbox contracts down the road.

That Aerodynamics or whatever the callsign was that tried to be based out of CRQ for a few months was an absolute nightmare for us. They built the arrival into there based on the fact that you would only see “5-6 CRQ jets a day” and it’s a total CF to get a guy down the LEGOZ when you have anybody going into SNA/LGB which is almost every time.

Those guys were gone before everybody in the area even remembered what their callsign was haha. Hopefully Avelo can outdo that

CalJet by Elite also lasted one or two nano-seconds. They added CalJet titles onto Elite's white Bombardiers (most of which are ex Lufthansa with tray table labels still in German). Since Elite's HQ are in Portland Maine, and its flight operations at the time were in Melbourne, FL, Carlsbad was a continent away. Lots of dead-heading involved. Elite pulled out because they didn't get paid.

Yeah I remember one guy went to Air Astana for an expat gig as a skipper, having only been an FO at Skybus. He seemed to have a blast and came back to reality when the recession was over here.

That was in response to Jetblue. That was a good thing because suddenly the legacies realized that “Well, people like customer service?”

What most folks I knew called, the 'End of United.' Course, back then no one knew Continental was gonna be the one to go.

Where's the Obiwan picture.... "Skybus, now there's a name I haven't heard in a long, long time...." :bounce: And yes, Waco, I do believe their uniforms were baby-poo brown.

Skybus? No, they were a shade of green. Looked like park rangers searching for Yogi Bear. Absolutely ridiculous. And the FAs wore advertising tshirts and sneakers. I saw them a lot back in the day, I was based in CMH for a few months as a shiny new Saab CA.
