F9 and NK

Yeah? Spirit is also in the same place today as they were in 2016. Hiring and upgrading a ton with deliveries scheduled for the next 7 years.

Ok defensive NK pilot ;) the guy asked a question and I answered it. I’m not denying NK isn’t growing. They have a 100+ on order but so does Frontier. So all else equal, Spirit half way up the list today was a guy hired late 2015/early 2016. Spirit has about 120ish planes now? Frontier has 86. So what base level would I want to start with, with both carriers having 100+ orders? I’d go with the one that has a 2 digit fleet with a smaller pilot group and ride that wave. I’m sure Spirit will do fine with upgrades and hiring continuing - but so will F9.

Being able to pick up on reserve has made commuting to reserve a lot better. Definitely a major bonus. Kind of surprised more airlines can't.

What do you mean picking up on reserve has made commuting easier? Do you mean self-assigning a reserve trip where you can see start and end times? Or do you mean picking up open time on days off when on reserve? If that’s the case, how is commuting easier? You’d get even less days at home then.

We can pick up open time on reserve days and it removes reserve from the schedule on that first day. So I pick up redeye flying, so instead of having to be in Denver at 4pm, now I don't have to be there until 10 or 11pm.

Ok that’s reserve pick up. I thought the guys above were talking about picking up open time on reserve, as in pure open time on days off for extra pay above guarantee.

Different words, same meaning :) I will occasionally pick a redeye turn on my last nights of reserve because the chance of getting released early is slim. I am back in time to catch the first flight home, and the last leg of the turn goes above guarantee.

But you can’t pick up open time on reserve days off above guarantee right? At AS on short call reserve guarantee is 79 hrs but for November I picked up a 4-day trip on days off that credits 23 hrs do my monthly pay is now 102.

Can that be done at F9/NK?

Yes it’s a huge benefit. Lots of reserve captains bid Reserve A (4am-12pm) but rarely get used so end up sitting at home....in turn, they pick up a trip on their days off which goes all above guarantee. A lot of reserve pilots can work it out where they credit 90+ hours with 20+ days off and only block 10-15 hours ...not a bad deal

Now that’s not the case in all bases, I.e. Denver....

This is exactly what I do. I have been assigned 3 day trips from the company this month on A reserve and then I picked up 2 (6 & 7.4 hour) day trips on my day off. Anything over 82 pays out at 125% as well. So realistically I have had 25 days off this month. No complaints about reserve flying that's for sure.

i wouldn't consider a day on call and not getting called a 'day off'

2 types of people. People who think it’s work to be on call and not get called and people who think it’s a day off when they don’t get called.

If I can get work done around my house and not go to work, that’s a day off. To each their own.

Yeah, I take all of my vacations to my garage while keeping a packed suitcase in my trunk and a pressed uniform hanging in the closet!

Can't golf? Not a day off.

If I’m on call but didn’t called BUT did everything I would have done with a day off and I pick my daughter up from day care AND my wife’s happy ....I’ll just tell her to pound sand Because I was working all day

Unless you’re so bad at golf that you can’t stand to play sober, I don’t know why you couldn’t golf on standby...most places have what a 2 hour minimum Callout?

For two years I was on call 24 hours a day 6 days a week with a 20 minute report time. We had a captain who would drive his car all the way to the aft air stairs. We had another captain that would be at the bar at 9am on his one day free from the call.
