Swayne coming to a 121 near you

I think I read somewhere that the BA dude went to work for some ME carrier
I watched the video and completely understood where he was coming from. Some people are perfectly happy being another cog in the machine just moving metal from A to B over and over again for forty years. Others are bored to death and need to feel a sense of accomplishing something, solving new problems, etc. To each his own.

Seriously. It’s one thing to walk away from a regional. But a legacy airline CA at a place like British Airways? I think you’d be nuts. You should have figured out by now whether this job was for you or not, no? I don’t know what it takes to be a CA at BA in terms of seniority but I assume they probably have at least 10 yrs in the industry.

And it’s not just about moving metal only from A to B. I find satisfaction knowing I safely took passengers who were headed home. To a new job. To an interview. A funeral. A new birth. An important meeting. A conference. Any and every reason why someone is flying that very day.

Personal story I still remember my first Thanksgiving at VX I flew from California to Philly and one of the last pax to get off was a nice young lady. She made small talk with us and come to find out, none of her family know she’s coming home for Thanksgiving. They all think they are missing out on their daughter who’s in California while everyone else is in Philly. But not today. Not tonight. Tonight, thanks to planes, she’s coming home.

A frickin awesome! That made my night just imaging how lit up and happy everyone would have been to see her walk through the door as a complete surprise. I have never once thought or wondered whether my job is worth it. That’s not even a question.

Hands down, best job ever!

Like I said, to each his own. No reason to condemn others for having different priorities and desires in life.

Although it is a bit odd if he took a job at a ME carrier.

Plus whatever coin he "monetizes" from Youtube.

On a related note...When the whole internet censorship thing started 8-10 months ago, I thought everyone was hyperbolic because, well, censorship is bad, m'kay. But as it turns out it's all because someone's thumb is on the money scale. I really should have known better.

I didn't realize that an "internet video content provider" could actually provide a living.
So their employer(youtube) doesn't like their content, has rules against their content and they don't pay them for it, since they broke the rules and they don't like the product? How is that censorship?

Owing to the deplorable failure of our government to provide effective regulation for Big Tech (which itself would probably run into some First Amendment issues), they now self-regulate—which, of course, comes with their own interests and their own priorities.

It's almost like if the internet was a utility and net neutrality as a result, this wouldn't be happening.

I really enjoy it when the people who advocated for really bad ideas get bitch slapped by their own doings.

This schadenfreude is delicious, you must try some!

Not saying it is. Simply saying what they say it is.

This is like complaining that the local “news and booze” rags they hand out free at sketchy places quit paying you money to come up with random stuff.

The paper is private....if they don’t want to waste column inches on you, that’s their prerogative.

Why force somebody to live somewhere they don't want to live? I am gonna commute because I sure as hell don't want to live in any of our bases.
Agreed. Commuting is very much a choice for me. I'm single in my late 20s...I'd rather live where I want to live than live in any of my companies bases, so I accept it for what it is. Does it suck sometimes? Absolutely. Just gotta embrace it sometimes. The most miserable commuters I come across are the ones doing it for external reasons.

External like due to family reasons?
I imagine some people just really like where they live and would pay the price to commute. Though if that’s the case I don’t want to hear complaints about it.

I come across a lot of guys who hate commuting and would love nothing more than to move the family to base, but the wife wants nothing to do with living in said base. That's what I'm talking about.

There's no such thing as a long term "stable base" at a regional. See CVG for Comair, ATL for ASA. Bases can easily come and go as legacy airline partnerships are altered/changed or dropped altogether. See Air Wis going UEX to all USExpress then back to UEX.

All the more reason not to move.
