Not really, I think I've flown with maybe 4 captains in 3 years where I was like "damn this guy is negative..."

Oh, I agree. I'm at a different airline that is "going through some things" and the worst part is having to hear all the people complaining about stuff we have very little control over.
 
Commuting isn’t a bad deal when you’re young and the motivation is high. It eventually gets to you. I commuted for a LONG time. Was it worth it? Yes. I would not commute my whole career though.

I just randomly stumbled on an article from him and I realized it was the same guy as in this thread.

He seems like an alright kid.

Are you guys ok? Have we really become this bitter that we have to absolutely despise anyone who stands out?

Seriously, I have my unhappy moments—like when I look at my credit card bill and despair, or when my boyfriend left me after ten years, or when the love of my life died ten and a half years ago... but overall, I look out and I see the world and it's like "Hell yeah, this is cool." and I take selfies, and I talk to strangers about my job, and I explain how things work to people so that they're less nervous, and I have no problem talking about my job.

I'm proud of what I do and, while pretty much anyone with normal aptitudes can be trained to do this job, most people aren't and I am. I'd feel the same way if I was a train engineer or worked on ship engines, or if I was an accountant for a large company, or if I worked a combine all day long, or was a teacher or nuclear engineer.

My company has a social media policy, and I'm always cognizant of it when I post my pictures. I also am careful to never frame things in a negative light, or do anything that would reflect badly on my company or their partners.

But with that said, a lot of you guys sound cattier than the cattiest flight attendants.

TL:dr but,
Me personally, I’m joking, and I’m sure he’ll be fine. A lot to learn, but he’ll be fine.

At Mesa, the crew coordinators waiting on the jet bridge to tag you didn’t have SIDA badges, so the pilots called the cops on them and waited until the cops took them away before getting off the aircraft. Or have the flight attendant hold off opening the door, do a quick costume change in a telephone booth, and just walk off the plane looking like a normal passenger right past the crew coordinator. Or just jump out the service door before the flight attendant opened the passenger door.

“So I have this trip that covered the days I want off to travel to Europe, so we have this antiquated DOS command system to do trip trades. (Cut to video of airport FOS terminal). So I’m signed in, this is my schedule for the month (types HI1 to display current month schedule points to days he wants off) and these are the days I want off but I’m scheduled for a trip... this is now I see what trips to trade (types N3D yada yada). To get to the trip trade screen, there’s a series of commands we have to type (types HiY types HT types HTO/A/32001/15. types HTA/B/32002/17/FO. types HTMD, types HZ.).

Or even better. How to drop trips in FOS. Or otherwise futilely known as “denied due to staffing.”

Maybe IT has changed since I left 4 years ago and AA/Envoy has moved into the 20th century and has a GUI interface to drop and trade trips.

Otherwise the younger folks might have their brains explode when the see they have to work with a DOS box to do anything to affect their QoL.

nothing more fun than getting all the way to the end of the trip trade command and it say "TTOT not active" or something. Trying to do the trade right at 12:00 so you started typing at 11:59...

You know how that goes. They'll look at all his stuff. Decide if it makes the company look bad in anyway. If hes a rockstar they will support him, if he's a schmuck, off to the gallows.

Actually the way to do it is to pre-type all of the commands for your trades and save it to a F key on the terminal.
Then at 12:00:00 SABRE server time, just push F1 .. "approved", F2 .. "approved", F3 .. "approved", F4 ... "approved" etc. by the time 12:00:15 rolled around, you already have all of your trip trades approved, while everyone else is still typing the commands for their first trade.

It's much faster than the FLICA interface, where it would take over 30 seconds just to get the first trip trade submitted because 2000 pilots are jamming the server at 12:00:00.

And don't forget to enter "HIN" after your trip trades are done on SABRE, otherwise you leave yourself open to someone poaching your trips off you and them sloughing their trips onto your schedule.
