So let me make sure I got this straight. You think that a citizen who has been accused of a crime should not get their right to defend themselves? That we should just accept any complaint as fact and punish them accordingly?

That’s going to be a hard case to make (unless it’s in front of a jury). They were on personal time. The company isn’t responsible for employee behavior on thier off time. The company can fire someone for things the employee does on their free time that the company disagrees with (with certain specific exceptions) but the company can’t be held responsible.

If that’s the theory her attorney is going with she’s going to loose (unless she gets a jury trial then Alaska is screwed).

I think students should be required to learn some of the legal profession like they are required to learn about health or balancing a check in high school. You know things like Due process and responsible actors. It might help in situations like this and a few other situations I am aware of recently (I’m looking at you Drump).

I once went to the chief FA because one of the FAs I was flying with was downright embarrassing, rude, out of line on the trip. I told her repeatedly to tone it down. After I went to the chief FA, she retaliated by claiming I groped her. They did an investigation and quickly determined she was lying and fired her, and fired the other FA for helping her lie. My FO threatened to quit if they even thought about siding with the two FAs that we’re lying thru their teeth. This all happened before I was even informed. Left a bad taste in my mouth. After that, I never wanted to get involved in any situation in fear of crap being made up about me. If it happened to me, it can happen to anymore

So I think weve all had problems with poorly worded posts at times, would you agree?

It's not that someone who is either a victim or maybe identifies with a victim doesn't believe in due process, it's that a lecture about due process can be situationally inappropriate.

Due process is as important for a victim as it is for an accused. In this case it seems, and in many other cases, due process never actually happens.

I think everyone here is asking for due process for both sides. However her side is demanding the guy's head if he isn't fired on the spot. People are boycotting Alaska if he isn't fired immediately even though he hasn't had his day in court. Thats the issue. No one is getting due process.

The lecture here (and I wasn't intending to lecture anyone) is that lets wait till the facts of the case are heard before passing judgement.

I agree with the last bit, but I am also going to say something here that I want to assure you is not pointed directly at you, and use a term that might earn me a solid flaming....

That is a privilege that is often not afforded to certain groups, which is another reason why the due process lecture is not a welcome one among those groups.

She isn't demanding the guy's head. She's demanding money from the airline. Apparently that is more important than consequences for the alleged rapist.

Well, if what she said happened did happen it might make sense to keep this in the news until the company changes its decision. If it doesn't change the decision continue hammering them. Hard to see how you give up this fight if you think you're right- and that goes for whichever party isn't lying.

Someone is a liar here, and not sure which is which, but at some point if Alaska can't prove which is which, give one of these two a full buyout to go away to protect the company name. It seems like this stuff should be more cut and dry than it shows up in this new story. I'm a bit weirded out that there isn't a conclusion at this point.

That's what this is all about.

Alaska has already concluded their internal investigation. There is no prosecutor involved in this. There was no criminal charge brought.

She's bringing a claim against ALASKA, not the captain, because of the result of Alaska's internal investigation.

Surprised that nothing seemed to come of this locally. Because of where the alleged incident took place I would have expected to hear soemthing here as well. I guess i would have expected local charges in Bloomington. Maybe the did investigate....hasnt been anything other than the one article in teh Strib.
