Are both the LEAP's and the PW's, GTF's?
Kind of. The LEAP relies on the ability to run a much hotter core due to composite materials and a different turbine architecture. The Pratt uses a gear box to slow down the fan and operate the core at a much lower temperature.
Yeah but the PW's still seem to have major issues. I think more than half of NK's are grounded still due to engine issues. That said, on takeoff you can barely hear the things spooling up.
There aren't any issues at this point with engines coming off the assembly line (other than really long start times to provide for cooling). The issue is with the engines that were manufactured prior to the last round of fixes that are still waiting for updated parts.
