Delta to announce A321neo order

Are both the LEAP's and the PW's, GTF's?

Kind of. The LEAP relies on the ability to run a much hotter core due to composite materials and a different turbine architecture. The Pratt uses a gear box to slow down the fan and operate the core at a much lower temperature.

Yeah but the PW's still seem to have major issues. I think more than half of NK's are grounded still due to engine issues. That said, on takeoff you can barely hear the things spooling up.

There aren't any issues at this point with engines coming off the assembly line (other than really long start times to provide for cooling). The issue is with the engines that were manufactured prior to the last round of fixes that are still waiting for updated parts.

This is news? I figured that this was already a given.

Guess the 737max10ERstretch-ultra long range still had a shot. Guess not now tho.

Rest assured, Boeing and the MAX 10 got a fair shake in this. They were not dismissed because of the Bombardier issue.

No, this is not correct. The LEAP engine is not a GTF engine, only the PW1000 is. As @BobDDuck noted, the LEAP is effectively a CFM-56 with new technology materials.

737-10, is just a stop gap. Until the 797 comes out.

I think they will ultimately serve very different markets and that the MAX 10 will be very competitive if they overlap.

The real question here is how many are going to be 321LR's. In a number of markets, that plane is going to be a 757 replacement.

The LR would really only replace Transatlantic 757's, which I suspect are a small percentage of Delta's overall 757 fleet. The domestic 757's can be plenty covered by 737-900ER's and A321ceo's today, let alone by the baseline MAX's/NEO's - no need for the additional MTOW of the LR. And the LR will not be capable of replacing 757 markets that require hot/high performance like Hawaii, South America, Denver, etc.

I’m not judging or questioning you but how do you know all this information? Do you work for Boeing or Airbus? Or are these performances published somewhere?

Do not work for an OEM, but work in industry and was educated in aircraft performance/engineering. If you know which design parameters to look at, you can make a preliminary assessment/comparison of this stuff using publicly available information, like the Aircraft Characteristics Manuals that each OEM publishes to it's website. There are also several blogs that do credible aircraft performance comparisons, and they have written extensively on many of these topics - especially the 757.

How have you been? Shoot me a PM if you get a chance.

I love the 321 NEO, it is a great flying airplane and very comfortable. They sip gas too, it really is a great aircraft.

Meh. Metal tubes, two turbofans. I don’t get why the Boeing vs Bus heart burn. Show me the money! I’ll get excited when they bring props back. :stir:

It's like your favorite football team that's behind in score and keeps running the exact same "Let's set for a long pass again!"

I was at that Iron Bowl thingy with my GF. They kept running the oblong spheroid right into the 5 or 6 BIG dudes right in the middle.

I asked her "why do they keep doing that when it doesn't ever work?"

She never answered me with anything but a look of scorn and derision.

I think that the 797, is them finally starting to innovate!
