Some post career fair observations from a friend

So my post quoted trafficinsight claiming that no two captains they'd flown with have had the same background. Given that the vast majority of the current pilot supply are regional pilots, it seems like an absurd claim. Even in the past when there was significant military, by numbers civilian pilots have outnumbered them significantly since Vietnam or so. I was trying to point out the absurdity of it.
Had nothing to do with the event itself.

Externally, you look at things like aircraft flown, college or no college, total number of hours. When it comes to finding new members for your team, once you're really involved, there are myriad of attributes you look at that aren't readily apparent to those that aren't in the pilot selection process.

If @trafficinsight was saying that no two applicants are the same, he's absolutely correct. Background is far more complex than UND > CFI > Republic FO > Republic CA as you're always trying to solve for "hunger", "drive" and "best chance to succeed and blend into the corporate environment".

"They" is at least a little better, if we can't stomach the other ;)

No matter how much time you have in the RJ, the autopilot has more time than you, but lucky for you they're not trying to hire one.

I'm saying not to sell yourself short with "I flew an RJ like everyone else, hire me!" as that will likely get you nowhere. There has to be more to you than the 5 to 7k hours you spent in an RJ. You might be just as qualified as anyone else but if you can't show that you also have passion, that you're three dimensional, then you're going to be beaten out by someone who can.

Its not meant to be negative, I'm saying this as someone who sat through a few interviews and hired a few pilots. Nowhere close, let's be honest, than a place like Delta has, well, this year. But a good few.

Ahh! Everyone had the last four digits taken, in order to attach the notes to the right application.

My friend would either do it off the bat or end up doing it at the end, and there was no difference in when it was done.

Considering there are two @ClarkGriswold characters running around, unique names aren’t always as unique as you think they are.
