Lucky for me I was born and raised there, hoping that gives me the leg up when the time is right.
Thanks for the info. I have heard they want guys who have spent at least some time in the mainland 121 world, where it is not CAVU 340 days of the year; so I decided to move here and check that box.
Yeah being from the islands will give you a leg up, but there were still plenty of people in the last window from the islands that were not picked up because they didn't have as much experience as some of the other candidates from the mainland had. You could still score an interview, but be told to reapply with more jet and mainland flying experience as many were told.
Making the move to the regional world is a smart choice for a Hawaiian airlines pilot career. The application pool is dwindling from the thousands into the hundreds, and a new contract could fix this issue to. Fly as much as you can, and be potentially ready for a call. They truly hire all across the board. Hope this helps and good luck!
